Scenic motorcycle route from Chiang Rai to Nan

Featured Replies

@RED DOG It has been a few years but I really enjoyed the road to Chiang Khan from Nan.  I have included a link to my map of the last trip.  It covers a lot more area than you are asking about but the 2195 in included.

I also have a four part story about the trip starting at this link.

Thanks village farang I will be obtaining an international license before I leave Aus and being an ex speedway modified saloon driver and my observation of Thai road manners I feel I will handle it easily

Thanks for the tips, I finally did the trip from Chiang Rai to Nan via the 1148 on Saturday.

The 1148 is in perfect condition now, a good bit of the road has been newly surfaced recently.

Just on the 101 North of Nan there are some roadworks going on.

Great trip, just a bit unlucky that Saturday was cloudy all day.

Just did 1000 klm around Nan including the 1148 two days ago.  Don't miss it,  best stretch of road in Thailand.

There really is so much beauty to be found in Thailand if one simply takes the time to look.

Well it was cloudy, so I just took one from near the coffee shop on the road.

Beg to differ!

Read my trip on a PCX, 150cc but FUN, more fun than on a bigger bike

Two points here. The 150pcx is a bigger, heavier, and more cruise-worthy bike than a 125 wave. Also, this poster is someone who does things like Pattaya to Nong Khai in one day on a PCX. Not your average rider, maybe something wrong under the bonnet.

Please stop posting all of these wonderful reports on Chiang Rai.

We are planning our final retirement days there and worry that everyone and their dog will come to learn about the area. The last thing we want is another Patong or Jontiem.

Lets just keep it a secret between us few.

Something wrong under the bonnet? Care to elaborate?

Did the 1148 today on a PCX and its fenominal. Shame it rained but this is indeed among the best in Thailand. I would als recommend the 200km between Mae Sariang and Mae Sot.
