PHICHIT: -- Rice millers, traders and cooperatives in Phichit province have been warned by Governor Veerasak Vichitsaengsri not to cheat rice farmers by using faulty weighing machines or they will face criminal litigation and have their licenses revoked.

Inspectors were sent by an order of the governor to check the weighing machines used at 11 rice trading spots to find out whether they are accurate or being tampered with. Three cases of faulty machines were exposed and each of them was fined 20,000 baht plus criminal proceedings in the court. If the alleged offenders are agricultural institutes, the fine will be doubled to 40,000 baht, according to the governor.

Hom Mali paddy price has gradually increased from 7,000 baht per tonne to 8,000-8,500 baht because the grains have less humidity due to the cold season, said Mr Narong Suktho, present of farm cooperatives in Tapan Hin district.

I happen to know that road very well even in the day it's dodgy. Lots of minor intersections, farm traffic, M/C, lorries, all plying for their place on a narrow road.

Night time it's hell most of the vehicles don't have lights on, surprised that there are not more deaths. Thanks for the update.

Bail denied! Stepfather apologizes to everyone except five year old boy he stamped on

a4.jpg

PHITSANULOK: -- The stepfather caught knocking down a five year old then stamping on him in a school car park has turned himself in to police.

Pongsak, 28, fled to his mother then hid with friends after CCTV caught him assaulting the five year old for nothing more than the fact the boy would not read to him, reports Daily News.

He turned up at Phitsanulok police station yesterday with a lawyer and his elder sister - and he was holding a "phaan" (golden tray) with candles and garland ready to say sorry.

He apologized to his mother and father and his grandparents. He apologized to society at large.

But no mention was made that he said sorry to "Mack" the five year old who he struck down and stamped on in full view of startled parents.

There was not even a word for Mack's mother.

He said he was stressed with family worries and asked people to forgive him saying he will turn over a new leaf. It won't happen again, he added.

He was interviewed by the local district chief Itthiphon Bupphasiri and the police chief. The case, along with the CCTV footage had caused widespread consternation in the country.

He was charged with assault and abusive behavior within his family. He was denied bail because he had fled following the incident at the downtown school last Tuesday.

Three year old Thai twins "marry" to trick the spirits!

a1.jpg

ANG THONG: -- Three year old twins - a boy and a girl - got married in Ang Thong province yesterday according to ancient customs and beliefs.

The ceremony with all the trappings of a real Thai wedding was held at the Chalerm Prakiat building. Relatives of the twins came to pour water from a conch shell on the couple's hands to bless them, reported Thairath.

And there was a dowry too - two baht weight of gold and 22,222 baht in cash.

The groom is called Teekhathat and his sister is Taweesaa and they are 3 years and 4 months old and hail from Talat Wiset Chai Charn in the central Thai province.

Their mum Sasi explained that the ceremony is to ward off bad luck hanging over from past lives.

Old beliefs state that when a boy and girl are born as twins they were in fact soul mates in a previous life but were unable to live together.

This causes them to be born together in this life. They must get married otherwise one of them will die.

In this way the spirits are tricked into believing they are in love and can never be separated.

A great time was had by all and now the children will live happily ever after.

Illegally built resort in Phetchabun removed

PHETCHABUN, 23rd November 2016 (NNT) – Administrative officials, soldiers, and policemen have joined forces to demolish the buildings of illegally constructed resorts, that have exceeded the time-frame permitted in the court’s removal order.

The Vice Governor of Phetchabun Krit Kongmuang, today announced that officials had demolished structures in Small Ville Resort, Phu Sai Mok Resort, and Awa Resort in Phetchabun province following the court order demanding owners remove the buildings themselves.

The demolitions by officials took place as owners had failed to remove the structures within 30 days after the order was issued. The demolitions have however received cooperation from resort owners who agreed to remove the structures themselves, while officials have helped some resorts to demolish some buildings owners could not remove in time.

The three resorts are among nineteen judged by the court to be illegally constructed, with removal orders issued by the court on 14th October 2016.

Resort owners have to pay the removal costs of those sections demolished by the officials. They are required to make a payment within 30 days after receiving the invoice.

The Phetchabun Vice Governor added that the authorities will continue to address the improper holding and usage of land in Phu Tub Berk Forest, be it for logging or resort construction. The operations will proceed in orderly fashion according to the court’s instructions.

Cash aid only temporary measure: Govt spokesman

BANGKOK, 24 November 2016 (NNT) – The government's cash aid for low-income earners is only a temporary measure to be implemented in parallel with long-term ones to boost their spendings without increasing their debts.

Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government will provide 3,000 baht in cash to each low-income earner who may make less than 30,000 baht in annual income and 1,500 baht in cash for those with 30,000-100,000 baht in annual income.

He said the cash aid will be implemented alongside long-term measures to revamp the entire economic system while other measures which are yet to be implemented at a later date include an investment plan and taxation review.

The government has aimed to improve the economy in bid to reach a satisfactory stage by implementing such measures including those in favor of farmers, he said.

The government spokesman said the cash aid is merely a once-and-for-all measure designed to boost domestic spendings without increasing the recipients' debt burdens and no cash will be by no means handed out on monthly basis.

He said the government is encouraging persons with low-income to register themselves to ensure their entitlement to other benefits such as free train and bus rides.

Farmers encouraged to grow more soybean plants

BANGKOK, 25 November 2016 (NNT) - The committee overseeing vegetable oil and oil crops is slated to ask the Cabinet to consider regulating prices of soybeans to encourage domestic farmers to grow soybean plants.

The committee's recent meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Junthon discussed the country's need to import certain oil crops to meet domestic demand.

Deputy secretary-general of the Office of Agricultural Economics Jariya Suthichaiya said the crops would be imported from January next year to the end of 2019 under the terms set by World Trade Organization and ASEAN Free Trade Area.

To reduce Thailand’s dependence on oil crop imports, the committee will ask the Cabinet to approve standard buying prices of soybeans per kilogram which will be based on manufacturing purposes.

The minimum price for a kilogram of soybeans will be 15.50 baht. Teh price will increase by at least 2 baht if the beans are to be used for the production of vegetable oil, animal feed and human food.

Jariya said new prices would attract more farmers to grow soybean plants, hoping to reduce imports of such crop.

SUPHAN BURI: -- A Thai policeman who had previously received an achievement award for his performance has been arrested for carrying out an armed robbery on an ATM as it was being filled up with cash.

The robbery took place at a Krungthai Bank ATM at a PTT petrol station in Suphan Buri on Nov 21st.

Today Pol L/C Withoon Phetpankan, 24, from Chonburi was arrested by officers from Provincial Police Region 7.

Police alleged that Withoon carried out the robbery and was aided by Somnuek Somsuay, a food vendor who had a stall at the PTT station, reports Daily News. Police say Somnuek, who is still on the run, tipped off Withoon as to the time when the cash delivery van would arrive at the petrol station.

Police also said that Withoon’s brother, who also remains on the run, helped him escape.

The robbery was captured on CCTV, which showed a man wearing a motorcycle crash helmet approach the cash delivery workers as they filled up the cash machine.

The suspect could then be seen fleeing on a motorcycle with the cash. As he fled he fired in the direction of the cash delivery workers.

However, the job of the investigators was perhaps made a little easier due to the fact the suspect had dropped his mobile phone at the scene.

Police later also found the crash helmet, motorcycle and clothing dumped in a pond nearby.

Today police also said that only last month Withoon had received and outstanding achievement for his work investigating cases.
