RocketDog
I experienced a very similar thing getting my very first 30 day tourist visa extension. I got there at 2:30 , unwise, and waited until after 4pm before a woman there came and collected 1900 baht & passport from me and each of several other people. I was dubious but played along. Sure enough, within a few minutes of 4:30 closing time I was called over to the station of a surly patrol officer who had been drafted by the office ladies to help with the rush. I got my extension and was gone within 30 minutes of them collecting the passport & fee. This was at the new office in Thayang which replaced the office in Hua Hin recently. I actually took it as a sign of job dedication that they committed to process all remaining applicants that day instead of simply closing as they would have done in the States. As somebody said earlier "long view, wrong view" Some offices are simply better than others, at least on certain days!
