The proposed new 5 + 5 year "retirement visas" – will they replace the existing one-year 'leave to remain' extensions that retirees currently use?

Featured Replies

I know this is being discussed in other forums but it really needs to be aired here, where the immigration experts congregate.

The thread in the Phuket forum suggests that this new visa will come into effect on 1st December, even though nobody seems to know the full details.

From what I've read, there's no way that I can qualify, as for starters I'm 70, and even if I had the money, (which I don't), there's no way I can get medical coverage at my age and with my pre-existing conditions.

Does anyone have any inside knowledge as to whether this proposed new visa is in addition to existing arrangements or is the intention to replace them?

If it does replace them, will there will there be any "grandfathering" of the old arrangements? If not, I think it is not only going to create a mass exodus of people like me, but will also create a lot of hardship for families left behind.

Has anyone got any info on this?

Thanks

Mobi

All the info known at this time is in the other topics in the news section.

From what I have read IMO it is not a replacement for the existing extensions just an alternative for those who can qualify for the new visas.

No need for further discussion in this forum until more info is available.
