Chiang Rai Airport Welcomes First Flight from HK Express

CHIANG RAI – HK Express continues to expand its Hong Kong network, on 25 November the LCC added Chiang Rai, its third destination in Thailand.

The 1,477-kilometre route will be operated twice-weekly (Mondays and Fridays) using the carrier’s 174-seat A320s and faces no direct competition.

Sarima Chindamat, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Hong Kong, said: “We are very pleased to witness the inaugural scheduled service by HK Express between Hong Kong and Chiang Rai, the northernmost large city and also a secluded city of beauty and serenity.

Have to feel sorry for the population of Chiang Rai

Why? So you mean Hong Kong people are obnoxious?

I think it's great news, I'd like to see Singapore added as a regular service as well.

Hmmm...

From the linked article:  "For Chiang Rai this is only the second international route."

Can you imagine how busy the Immigration counters are if that's the case?  Is that the case, anyone from the area?

So far I have only flown locally from Chiang Rai so haven't even seen the immigration counter.

It appears to have moved upstairs near the restaurant.

The main international flights are already from mainland China but baggage for other people who check right through to Chiang Rai via Bangkok form other countries sometimes passes through Customs downstairs near the southern entrance to the terminal.

Checking for a return flight next year showed surprisingly low prices.
