PHUKET: -- The elderly woman who was talked down from jumping from a bridge in Phuket Town on November 24 was not attacked by her son as earlier suspected, she is actually suffering the early stages of Alzheimer, a staffer at the Phuket Protection Center for the Destitute has confirmed.

Police and technical college students talked the elderly woman out of jumping off a bridge in Phuket Town on (Nov 24) after her son allegedly verbally and physically abused her.

Speaking to The Phuket News today (Dec 2), Miss Tanyaporn Aoonsian, Director of Phuket Protection Center for the Destitute, said, “Doctors have told us that the woman (named only as Ms Lai) was suffering confusion at the time of the incident because her brain is starting to show the first signs of Alzheimer disease.

“At the time of the incident it was alleged that Ms Lai’s son had punched her several times in the eyes and face, but I can confirm that this is not true,” Miss Tanyaporn said.

Perhaps they can explain the bruising on her face when she was saved ?

They don't seem to have any issues with bruises all over foreigners who die "of natural causes".

“After being checked thoroughly at Vachira Phuket Hospital, doctors confirmed that Ms Lai had in fact slipped and fallen. Along with the bruising on her face, she also had many scrapes on her body,” she added.

Sometimes, even often, It's better to wait a while before posting?

And now for all the Thai baskets to say :sorry:

Why say sorry, everyone posted on the information available at the time.

Most comments, mine included, were fully justified, going on the information at the time.

With her alleged state of mind, I am not sure the new information is correct.

She is hardly in any fit state to challenge it.

Doctors say she slipped and fell... assumedly they know the difference between slip, and fall injuries in the elderly, verses beating injuries.

and why sorry.... because a bucket load of people erroneously got on the Thai bashing bandwagon.....

perhaps these assumptions of bashing were made on the basis of the origional post, which is always challenged by those here anyway, as being less than factual or complete.... but they seem now to be erroneous assumptions

so just say :sorry:

not always an easy thing to do, perhaps

So you suggest everyone waits a couple of weeks to post, in case further information is produced, contradicting to original article !

And as far as the woman;s injuries go, she (allegedly) said she could note take any more of the beatings, which suggests her son has done it previously? But you, I assume, have concrete evidence that this is not the case ?

When i used to visit my mother in law in hospital after a fall, she claimed out loud that she'd been beaten by the nurses and that they wanted to throw her out of the window. Of course , she had Alzheimer's and delusion, but she was very convincing.A shock such as the fall, and being in unfamiliar surroundings probably brought it on. Which is why it is so important to have medical help and advice for our elders.

Perhaps if you read the article fully you'd have that explanation, it's all there.

No, what he was suggesting is that the Thai bashers back off until there is justification.

The lady who said that she was beaten suffers from Altzheimer's and the rest of the evidence presented as a result of medical testing is more concrete than your inference.

Hell no!.... to paragraph one

per your words... to paragraph two.

"she allegedly" you point out.... " which suggests" you assume... then "I assume" you admit...... so much for "concrete evidence"

Me? i just expect an :sorry:, when due

its non obligatory, of course... keep bashing away if you want. Y'all have a nice evening now
