Best mobile package for a one year contract?

Featured Replies

I will be moving to Thailand in January 2017. Up to now I have never used a Thai SIM card. As I have rent an apartment for a year and also visa for a year I am looking for the best option for my mobile now. I want to have a permanent Thai phone number then, so a yearly contract would make most sense I assume. I am looking for a package including 3GB data plus prepayment for very few phone calls, SMS per month.

Furthermore, is it possible to automatize the monthly payments by a standing bank transfer order as sometimes I might be out of the country for more than a month?

Any recommendations on which package would suit best for me?

Many thanks in advance!

if your only here for 1 year , and traveling in and out , keep your old sims activated and just get a pre paid thai sims at airport or 7/11 shop . much more simpler than getting a plan . new sims will be automatically regestered with government . easy .

Well, I have rent for one year now and have visa for one year, but that doesn´t mean I will leave again after one year. I will probably extent it afterwards as I am kind of retired already. Out of 12 months I will be in Thailand at least 8-9 months per year. However, maybe it´s a good idea to start with a prepaid SIM. I only want to avoid that I have new phone number everytime after being out of the country for a while. I have no idea after how much time or if at all the prepaid phone number is expiring when you don´t load new credit for a while.

Most of the pre-paid SIMs have option to extend validity up to a year for a small fee.

Hi

I have used a sim card from AIS (123Call) now for 2 years... cost 50 Baht in the shop.
When ever it run out of money I just to online and use my credit card to put in money..

Easy and simple and no fees....

You can top up via ATM and online with all 3 major providers.

That would be perfect! Thanks

For True:

Press : * 934 * 180 # for 180 days extension.   Cost 12 Baht

For DTAC:

Press:  *113*180# for 180 days extension.   Cost 12 Baht

Not sure about others as don't use them.

Yes, but cannot extend beyond 1 year. I haven't tried these codes for a few months, but assume they still work ... worth a try.

My wife and I are in Thailand 6 months a year and in the US for 6 months of the year.  We just leave and come back and make a call from the airport with the money that was left on the phone when we left here.  We have AIS.  This past time we we in the US, I wen to charge her phone and noticed I had messages from AIS.  I was wondering how I could get an AIS message while in the US.  And get this.  A woman here in Thailand called us because she thought we were here and my wife answered the phone.  Lucky our phone was on during the charging.  They she made a couple calls here from the US on her AIS card.  I would like to know how this happened.

It's called "roaming".

Pre-paid is typically more than adequate, but there are often some promotions. Maybe use pre-paid for a month or two, figure out your usage requirements, then look for a post-paid plan, if that meets your requirements.

Most pre-paid plans have a 365 day max. expiry, assuming you've done the requisite top=ups and/or purchased extended expiry ( ~ 2 baht/30 days).

Post-paid plans don't necessarily give any extneded  expiry unless you pay each month.

  • 3 weeks later...

With AIS I keep several pre-paid numbers active, even though I am not in the country for large parts of the year.

For 20 baht, you can top up and receive an additional months extension on your validity - so when in Thailand go to an AIS shop and using the automated booth do as many minimum top ups needed to extend your sim validity out to 1 year.

This can also be done with any Thailand banking app or online banking system, from Thailand or overseas.

You can also have someone in Thailand send you voucher codes for topping up which you can then apply from overseas assuming you have roaming activated.
