A young guy I know was arrested while shopping for two bottles of Cola which the police said were to be used to make some  minor drug when he joined his mates in a nearby condo. Possibly true, but no real evidence available and he was jailed because his family could not raise the required 150,000 baht bail money.  He was released after 6 weeks with no fine due to the time served.

 

This drunk lady's offence apparently merited a bail sum of just 100,000 baht and, having come up with the money, I doubt she will spend any time at all in jail, even though the m/c driver could have also been under her vehicle for all she knew.

After seeing the video I am not one bit surprised. This is such a normal thing for women drivers in Thailand. I bought my first girlfriend a brand new Toyota Tiger in 1999 for 620,000 baht. Anyone care to take a guess how much it was worth after 12 months. Ha Ha. I could write a factual book on what that poor old, new car went through but most readers would think it a work of fiction.

No sense of responsibility is the norm here, over 1/2 don't have class A insurance on their vehicles so better trying doing a runner so you don't have to pay. 

 

Drunk driving/riding have been going on since vehicles arrived in Thailand many many years ago and first lately are they doing something about it but are only 1/2 serious about it.

 

The bike rider/passenger was very lucky.

An example, when the little guy from the South was PM (Dems) he would often say 'we don't want to blame people', 'we don't want to upset people'.  

 

The bottom line, he was highly admired for his traits, his gentle non-conflict comments and  behaviors, etc.

People should realize that if you are filming something for evidential material it's best not to focus on the ground or whip the camera around like you're at a rave.

In regard to A class insurance; from discussions with my outer Thai relatives there is zero understanding of what A class insurance / all aspects of vehicle insurance means.

 

We have one relative who, 5 years ago, bought a new pick up on hire purchase, therefore insurance included, 30 days after he took delivery of the vehicle he approached the insurance company for a refund of the premium.

 

Insurance company obviously refused so uncle called the police. He kept mentioning another member of the family so the police called her to come to the insurance office. She tried to explain to him that the insurance was part of the requirements to buy on HP, etc., etc.

 

Uncle refused to listen and then accused the police of being in on a 'scam' to rob him. Police took him under escort to the local station. More senior police made him listen. He was fined 1,000Baht for causing a nuisance and abuse at the insurance office and for abusing police officers.

 

Later, he had an accident and the truck was a right off. He insisted that he did not have to make any further payments .... the story continues....

Another slant, more and more videos of 'incidents' are appearing on social media, pantip, sent to the Thai newspapers etc., and seen by all.

 

I hope the frequency of these videos increases. Not because I hope for accidents, but so that there is more pressure on the police...

on the subject of "keep driving" i have a thai female friend,she said there was a "noise" coming from her car, (nice Merc) it was a puncture, she kept on driving on the rim and obviously the wheel shattered,  so then she had to pay out for a new wheel/ tyre and damaged front suspension, women drivers, eh !?

I have a similar thai friend (woman). She had to buy 3 new rims last year who were expensive cause she lets them glue pink glass diamonds all around the edge.

 

When she goes to the garage the boss is always laughing for what her car is missing this time. If you sit in it you'll see Chanel makeup boxes EVERYWHERE, it's a big makeup room and on the rearseats is where all her clothes are hanging so she can't see anything behind her.
