I can understand that jet fuel prices must be going up and correspondingly there will be a necessity for the cost of flight tickets to rise. It’s a question of when those ticket price increases come into effect. Airlines do not buy fuel on a week to week basis. They enter into longer term contracts covering months ahead. So the fuel being used now was almost certainly bought several months ago at lower prices, whilst fuel being bought now at high prices will be used a few months down the road. So if not being exploitative, higher ticket prices will be implemented in a few months when the high cost jet fuel is actually being used. Do I think that will happen? Not a chance. I think Airlines generally, not just Thai, will increase prices now.
