Hey there,

i was wanting to know of a good mechanic in sisaket. Have toyota hi-lux diesel. sometimes won't start and brakes are a bit dodgy.I will be coming to sisaket in 3 weeks. my wifes family are hopeless. They keep driving car with bad brakes i tell them to fix it before do more damage . They say they don't have the money or  know anybody. The  wife sends 15'000 baht every month to pay for car loan. what can i do, i am pulling my hair out in frustration. I mean wife get loan for 500,000 baht only to let car die slowly. I will get it fixed when i come here for our yearly holiday. So i need good honest mechanic will go to ubon if have to.

Pop in and speak to Frank at 'Living in the Past'. That's the longest serving farang restaurant in SSK. He's very helpful & knowledgeable about local issues/services.

Toyota main dealers are extraordinarily cheap compared to falangland. My Toyota Fortuner Sportivo SUV has just completed 200,000 km from new and had 19 services over it's 7 year life. alll servicing and repairs were done at Kantaralak (southern Sisaket province) Toyota main dealer.

As you will see from the attached, the average service cost has been ThB 3,300 with the labour content included in that being just ThB 520. Total parts costs outside servicing (other than tyres/batteries) was ThB 60,000. All done on a drive-up no appointment service (apart from fitting a new steering pump recently).

Frank is indeed a good source of info and you might save a bit if you're lucky with a Frank recommendation of a freelancer/independent,  but at these prices why bother IMO.

I have to agree with SantiSuk. They Toyota dealers is the best place to have any work done on your vehicle. Took my truck in to get the timing belt & water pump changed at 150k and was so surprise at the cost compared to Hawaii/USA. That I now take it to the dealer to do everything. If I remember right there is a dealer just out of town on rt 221 on the road to Kantharalak

Cannot personally comment too much about this brand dealer but I was evident to the fact that Sisaket was far dearer than Kantarom Toyota, even though fairly nearby?????

In Sisaket about 25 km outside in Wang Hin is a German car  mechanic master, Dieter, who has been living and working here for 20 years. More info when you are in tow at Frank's place.
