Watana defends Thaksin administration in Rolls Royce bribery scandal

Former commerce minister Watana Muangsook today defended the Thaksin Shinawatra administration over alleged involvement in the Rolls Royce bribery scandal.

Watana posted on his Facebook page saying the Thaksin cabinet did not give approval to the purchase of Boeing and Air Bus planes using Rolls Royce jet engines under Lot 3.

His defense of the defunct Thai Rak Thai party-led administration headed by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra came after the independent Issara News Agency exposed the Thaksin cabinet’s approval of the huge 96,000 billion baht aircraft procurement scheme of the national flag carrier Thai Airways International in November 2004. A total of 14 planes were on the scheme to purchase.

The news agency said the approval was given by former transport minister Suriya Juengrungruangkit at the time when former banker Thanong Pitaya was THAI board chairman and Kanok Apiradee was former THAI president. It also said 4% brokerage fee had been paid by Rolls Royce to former THAI executives and cabinet ministers.

It also exposed that bribery payment was paid in three lots. The first lot, 663 million baht,  was paid between 1991-1992;  the second lot, 336 million baht, between 1992-1997;  and the third lot, between  2004-2005, 254 million baht.

Why would anyone think that someone in the Thaksin administration would be guilty of corruption and accepting a bribe.

This guy should know that with the hatred of anything Thaksin or Red  by the Junta. And the resulting lack of credibility, that he is much safer staying off the radar.

He looks like is he urinating upwind.

Um just trying to think when Mr Thaksin came into power, a guess 2001.

but I think some unfortunate others will say it was him in 91 to 98 and after.

Corruption has been going on here since 1936 and that is not pm, its the year

same happening now as happened in 1945 blame the ones you are scared of, or want out of the way

Same old Thailand just different faces get the cream and have to take the rap.

2017 the world is waking up I hope

can some one check my spelling etc just so shawn does not blow a Winchester gasket

Its not corrupt payments, bribes, its to be called a Brokerage fee !

I think the 4% would have been a lot better spent on schools,

hospitals, instead of going into already rich people's pockets.

Thanks for the heads up list. Next question could be;

How much and to whom did GE pay for securing their order for the 2014 delivery?

Refusal of a bribe / brokerage fee is so uncommon

here I doubt very much they had much choice other than to take the money and run,

so many fingers in the pie, they ALL must have worked so hard for their fees.

Strange then when given a chance they tend to vote in their tens of millions for him and his policies. That doesn't make him a good man but it makes you a liar.

I used to think that but over the last few years my eyes got opened to the truth and its a bit different to what you may think, seems like its just the usual suspects

Nobody in Thailand is surprised. The surprise would be is no government/Thai airline

executives padded there bank accounts. There where no complaints filed by Thai

officials. Just business as usual. Unfortunately for those involved the spotlight of the

press is no shining brightly in there direction. :whistling:
