TAIPEI: -- Taiwanese police said Tuesday that they had arrested eight Thai women aged between 20 and 30 for prostitution in Taipei.

The women had gone to the Taiwanese capital hoping to cash in on rich pickings at Chinese New Year, they said.

The women were charging 2,500 baht for half an hour of their time, reports Thairath.

The China Post and Taiwan News reported that the women had been arrested at an apartment after being met by someone who was not named. They had been in Taipei just two days when they were caught.

The news media said that the Thais were taking advantage of the fact they did not need visas to enter Taiwan.

They were arrested in the Soonan area of the city on Friday.

A bit cheeky on their part charging that much.

I didn't know they used Thai Baht in Taiwan.....

The NT$ and the Baht are almost equal in value:   1 TWD =1.12299THB

They were over charging and getting a little extra on the currency difference.

Did they have a work permit I wonder ?

I wonder, too. 45 years ago Taiwan had a very tightly controlled system of prostitution, at least in Taibei. You had to fill out a contract in the bar, the bar kept a copy and the customer kept a copy. Prices were controlled. Taxes were collected. The workers were protected. I don't know if they still have the same system or not.

Men with wives and girlfriends pay for it also.  Probably a lot more than Bt.2,500 a pop.   An extreme example:  James Cameron, director of blockbuster movies, was married for several months to Linda Hamilton, but when they divorced, she strolled away with a cool $50 million.

That's <deleted> extortion

What a waste of time.

For the Police and the media reporting it.

Marriage is legal prostitution!

If you don't believe it cut off the cash and see what happens.

Who isn't a prostitute these days with economies retreating and some crashing?
