MANILA: -- The hope for Thailand to win the most prestigious beauty pageant crumbled when our contestant, Chalita “Namtarn” Suansane, was eliminated from the final six at the Miss Universe competition in Manila this morning.

While Namtarn was not named the most beautiful woman in the world, she made a positive impression on pageant fans worldwide, gaining millions of online votes.

Namtarn looked stunning on stage in a black gown by Thai designer label ASAVA. The outfit was inspired by some of Queen Sirikit’s early looks and took five months to make.

MANILA: -- Ms Chalita "Namtan" Suansane was today named among the top six beauty pageants from all over the world gathering in the Philippines to compete in the Miss Universe 2016.

However she didn’t reach the last top three contesting for the most beautiful girl in the world.

The last three beautiful ladies entering the final were Colombia, France and Haiti.

Hard to imagine she could come in 6th. The others must be amazing.

I guess beauty is highly subjective, but to my eyes the winner suggests that perhaps Brexit was not such a bad idea after all.

But most the posters on this forum will have a preference for a particular type of beauty, so we are perhaps not the most independent of judges?

And one of the wonderful things about this country -  is that an ugly sod like me can have a girl at home who would not look out of place in the final 6 line up.

all I have been hearing in the home,

was a lot of:

  • "it Thailand's turn" - repeatedly...
  • " the France she ugly" (yes missus said France, and not falang)
  • good filipin not win again,  thailand better..."

What an idiotic headline. Was it written as  sensationalist click bait?

'Booted off' suggests something negative happened, when in reality this woman's go at becoming miss universe was an admirable success.

The reporter obviously didn't do any research.  There were to be 12 initial finalists out of the 86 or so at the start. But due to overwhelming fan support via online voting they added a 13th. She braved it through several rounds with great answers in at least 2 out of 3 questions. She kept surprising us by making it through those rounds. She also is the daughter of a maid and she herself has been working odd jobs since age 10. Nice to see someone in Thailand not from hi-so family get an opportunity like this. The show even called her the 'fan favorite.'

Hardly booted off stage!

Glad it's over, all i have been hearing last few days is complaints about Phillipines and Thailand should win.

Load of dross.

I gave the missus a good slap earlier, and a poster of Stevie G. That should sort it

She might have won if she could speak English.

I think the ones who elect to speak in their own national language (even though they speak good english) are the smartest and have the best chance to win. When the translator translates, it buys them valuable time to think up an answer to the questions in that crucial bit where what the contestant says decides the outcome.

so you cant be 'thai' if you're mixed race?

Pedantics!! In that case I'm Irish and my kids are Chinese as their maternal great grandfather was Chinese.  Got news for you I never say I'm Irish and my kids never say they are Chinese. Why go through life being so picky?

In this day and age I doubt the pageant would ever select a winner without a fairly good command of English. Too much trouble to drag a translator all around the World. You could see it was a turnoff during the broadcast having to wait for the translator to translate what Miss Thailand was saying--and the communication takes twice as long and loses spontaneity.
