BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan believes that there will not be a coup after the elections this year if there is reconciliation among all political parties and groupings.

He dismissed an analytical report in the Washington Post website which places Thailand in second spot after Burundi as countries with high risk of a coup this year, saying that statistics cannot be used to determine whether there will be a coup or not in Thailand.

Earlier, a spokesman of the National Council for Peace and Order said that there were several factors that led to the staging of coups by the military in the past.

if PTP wins again, there will be another coup. ( it's just a circle). But I doubt the next general election is going to be fair and just. ( maybe no election needed because we are so happy with the junta!!! ?).

No coup next year, well that is not much of a stretch since the coup makers have got a pass to government power for the next several years, regardless of if there is an election or not.

But one day shites gonna fly.

BANGKOK: -- KEY GOVERNMENT and junta figures yesterday ruled out the possibility of a fresh military coup this year, rebuffing a prediction in the Washington Post that Thailand had a high risk of another power seizure.

Authorities said there were no reasons for another military coup and that the current post-coup government was enjoying unity with the Armed Forces. They also said that the military worked under the administration.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said military officers did not want to stage a coup unless the country was mired in a severe impasse. He added that if reconciliation could be reached between the conflicting sides, “no coups would ever happen again” in Thailand.

“There is a high likelihood of no more coups if all the politicians can talk to one another and take good care of the people. The military then works under politicians,” Prawit said.

All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing. That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one might say, "See this, it is new "? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us.…

The government is the armed forces, but there will be a coup, possibly within the coup, too much money being lost atm.

And we know that whenever the military announces either, something will or wont happen, the opposite is more likely.

Of course Prawit and his comrades s are quite correct and confident a future coup will not take place. The simple reason being the Generals will ensure the Military Party will "democratically" win the next election by using every means at their disposal thus ensuring they remain in power. No need to even change the place name at the Cabinet Room table.

After that other Thai political parties will be gagged and consigned to the dustbin of history.

The military here are addicted to them - one previous coup leader and PM even had a coup to overthrow his own government.

There must be someone high up in the military thinking

'I couldn't do much worse than this clown'.

Im sure there are many 1,000's at the bottom who think the same.

.........if he and the rest of his Green Gangster chums are kept chained up in their kennels, where they belong, taken for walks occasionally and released only to fight wars against foreign invaders and to help with flood relief.

Not very appealing to those thoroughly indoctrinated with a medieval concept of the "virtue" and "nobility" of warlordship, and the entitlement that it automatically bestows.

That's their world.

Which countries have reconciliation between political parties? Communist countries and dictatorships. Most have a healthy political imbalance between various factions. Prayut does not seem to understand politics and democracy.

What a wise man, always so eager to point out the utterly obvious. It's a bit like stating...

"There will not be rain if the sun comes out."

"You will not be hungry if you've just eaten."

Or how about this one...

"There will not be a coup if the army finally quits meddling in politics."
