February 11, 20179 yr So the date of my retirement is quickly approaching on 23 February 2017. We have prepared and are ready for the move to Lahansai Buriram. This is where we plan on starting and will travel extensively inside Thailand the first year or two. I will take any advise/words of wisdom and derisive comments that anyone cares to provide.

February 12, 20179 yr Author Actually it is one man and his dog, and my (formerly Thai, but now thoroughly westernized) wife. My wife has been living in the USA since 1993.
February 12, 20179 yr Good luck. The islands always make a good trip. Ko Chang and Ko Phayam are great! Have a great day
February 13, 20179 yr You will like Buriaum , I my self think it is a very good province , have live and stayed it lots of towns in issan , and I put buriram at one of the top 5 . Vert Central for traveling around the northeast. you can PM me if you like and I will tell you more , as you know on this site thai visa has lots of people who like to put rubbish on other members . I have travel a lot out of buriram around the north east and south of bangkok by car .
February 13, 20179 yr Lahan Sai is a wonderful community. My Thai wife and I have a farm house out on the farm (not a village) about 9 km. from Lahan Sai and frequent the town for supplies, the Saturday evening market for veggies and other eats and to run into local Thai friends. Although I only live here about 3-4 months of the year (I'm from Harlem, USA), I always look forward to the extreme swing from the chaos of NYC to the settled and naturalness of the farm. I much more enjoy the rural farm areas and it's genuine Thai people than the bustle of Bangkok and the calamity of the more popular resorts. Although, as mentioned, the more isolated beaches and resorts are beautiful for a visit. Enjoy.
February 13, 20179 yr you will like Buriram. Have been here 19 years and have enjoyed being here in my home and there is no place like home!
February 13, 20179 yr Don't worry the excitement will soon pass and be replaced with utter amazement at the every day stupidity you will see.
February 13, 20179 yr Greetings! Buriram is a cool place and lots to see and do in itself.Having taken train journeys all over Thailand the Bangkok to Buriram is one of my favourite because of the fab scenery on the way! Lots of different places to see with other trains out of Buriram. So would highly recommend to use the trains where possible as so much more to see! Canary Sun ( choo choo ) x

February 13, 20179 yr Welcome – it's a really good idea to travel around and see different parts of the Kingdom – wish you good luck...
February 14, 20179 yr I have most enjoyed the out of the way places w/the fewest tourists... bask in the sun, cool off in a waterfall... have fun and good travels.
February 14, 20179 yr Advice......avoid Buriram. It's a small town that has delusions of grandeur...not helped by that prick Nevin who believes he's a local God. Glad I left that tinpot town. Of course, just my humble opinion....each to their own.
February 14, 20179 yr Different strokes for different folks. As for myself, I love Issan. I originally wanted to live near the sea, in particular Prachuap Kirikhan. I did travel extensively around Thailand, top to bottom, east to west. I eventually ended up in a scenic area of Loei province. That was more than twelve years ago. I did spend quite a bit of time in a village called Phnom Pai but Loei won out mainly because of the beautiful mountain areas.

I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would choose to live out in the sticks instead of Bangkok. I guess to live out there you need to be a pretty anti-social person who doesn't like having fun with lots of friends.

Not entirely sure what your last comments says How many friends do you have living nearby? How many times a week do you go out and have fun with your friends? Do people get together for dinner parties or BBQ's at each other's houses? From what I've read it seems that most of the people living in the sticks hardly do any socialising. What is public transport like? Can you stand at the side of the road and get a meter taxi? Can you call an uber?
