Hey guys,

As the title suggests, I'm looking to narrow down some clean, bed bug free hotels in the lower Sukhumvit area that consist of walk in prices of 1000 THB. I have checked out Agoda and other sites. Since I do not have a debit or credit card, I have to pay for the hotel in person. I would really appreciate some tips.

You will always pay more with a walk in. Lower Sukhumvit in that range won't be clean and will have bed bugs and there are only 2 that I know of both used as short time rooms when empty but if your raise your budget to around 1700 there are a few in soi 4

Good post, there's definitely options in this price range. Having a credit or debit card as back up if you're out here however would be highly advisable.

Booking.com has hotels which you can reserve without a card and pay in cash on arrival. I did this in Hua Hin and it worked very well. I have an assortment of cards but I dont like to pay for anything in advance in Thailand as there is too much scope for trickery or poor value/misrepresentation. Look first pay second.

Don't overlook the Honey Hotel on Soi 19.    You can still get a ground floor room for B900 which includes breakfast.     They also have a small, but nice, pool.

Sadly, the Honey is scheduled to close very soon, if not closed already.

last week, I stayed at "Da Bed", a small hotel at the end of the Soi-4 subsoi opposite the 7-11. Rooms were B700 , small but decently furnished: TV and fridge.  Location was reasonably quiet. I did see and kill 2 cockroaches.

They  rent rooms short time as well.

There are several other inexpensive Guesthouses on the same subsoi.

Go down soi 4 a little further and you will see the Happy Hotel on the right side...B600 for decent rooms several years ago...don't know about prices now.

Down soi 6, where it makes the right angle turn, slightly to the left is the Orchid GH, also less than B1000 last time I knew.   The Swan at the corner of 4 &6 also has several buildings with rooms.

I vote for raumchitt soi 15....I actually stayed at Pinnacle on soi 3 for about 600 and had a very good room, that the maid escorted me too...nice bath tub, too.  But apparently, they give dirty backpackers the worst rooms.  Africans in the lobby...totally harmless.  Did not like African prossies on Sukhumvit.

I believe the Honey is scheduled to close in September.

Just be honest, if you can only afford to pay 1,000 baht a night, you shouldn't be in Bangkok these days. A decent room by the day costs around 2,000 baht. Your type has mostly gravitated towards Cambodia these days. Bangkok is a place for big spenders nowadays. You're out of your natural environment. Book your ticket to Cambodia (by bus, as you probably can't afford a plane) and bye bye.

"My type"?

Excuse me?

Where do you get off making any kind of such judgement about a person you have never met or spoken with?

I stayed in that hotel that night because repairs were being made to the tile floor of my apartment and I did not want to sleep in the room while adhesive was drying.  Why would I pay B2000+ for amenities I had no need of?

Maybe you should examine why you are the type of person you are.

Tried that one, no free internet.

Yes, 40,000 per month household income puts you in the top 20% in BKk......no need to pretend, unless of course you like pretentious people and places.

I thin Ruamchitt is quite a bit nicer than Miami.....I am almost surprised the Miami hasn't bitten the wrecking ball....that land would be worth more without the building.  I do not think they have upgraded it in the last 12 years and rooms were 550 per night.

It will as soon as the 5 star hyde hotel opens directly opposite. Hyde is going up fast and in about 18 months that dump will be worth a fortune

For one thing, Hyde is not a 5-star hotel, it's a condominium building. Secondly, it's going up very slowly if at all. Construction seemed to be completely stalled for well over a year. The rumour is that the financing of the project has been pulled or run into difficulties. Don't be surprised if Hyde will prove to be another one of the empty shell buildings dotted around Bangkok.

I was going to say..if they are going fast...that is a change, because it has been slow, if am all for five years+.  But those guys paid over a billion for Soi 6 lot....still used for debris...10 years later.

Most stuff recommended but Sawadee Hotel in Soi 8 I think is just under 900.

If you're up for walking around, i.e. not much in the way of baggage, up Soi 3, past the Grace and then the next right there's a couple of hotels around there (PS Hotel or something, rings a bell) and used to stay there 800 or 900, can't imagine it's gone up hugely.

You really want lower suk? Little Corner near Ekkamai is under 1000, quaint little place, clean and added Ekkamai travel options if that is required for getting back home the next day
