"Justice will be done" say police in murder of student in Cha-Am

CHA-AM: -- Police in Cha-Am say that justice will be served as they investigate the murder of Silapakorn university student Theerapong Thitithan,  24.

 

Theerapong died after having a screwdriver embedded in his skull in an attack by a mob of youths at his lodgings in Cha-Am.

 

The victims mother said from his hometown of Lang Suan, Chumporn, at the weekend that the body of her son would not be cremated until all the people responsible were found Thairath reported.

 

There are rumors circulating that some of those involved are children of "influential" figures in Petchburi including a former MP. The victim's mother threatened to parade her son's corpse in Petchburi if justice is not done.

 

Yesterday 14 people gave themselves up and one was arrested on a warrant. Another three are sought and are expected to be in custody shortly.

 

Investigation chief Pakhin Siwmethakun of Cha-Am police showed reporters CCTV footage yesterday and they listened to a recording of a conversation he had with the victim's family.

 

He said that the tragedy of the case is that the mob were after another person and that the victim was entirely innocent. He said: "No

matter if those involved are the children of influential people, politicians or people in uniform - they will all be prosecuted and brought to justice".

 

The case is being closely monitored by provincial police chief Surapong Chaijan.

 

So far all those in custody have denied killing Theerapong. Some said they were there but not involved. Others said they attacked friends of the victim but not the victim himself.

 

The incident occurred on February 25th. One of the other people who was at the student lodgings told reporters that many people had arrived in three vehicles looking for someone who was not there.

 

When they admitted that they knew the person the mob was looking for they were set upon. Several people were injured as they were attacked with bottles and screwdrivers.

 

Pakhin named the man arrested on a warrant as Kornkanok Waranyasathit, 23. Of the total of 18 involved four were women and the rest men. They could all face charges of premeditated murder.

 

He said that he was due to meet with the victim's mother today to go over developments in the case.

Appalling that it takes nigh on 2 weeks and a grieving mother's plight for the cops to actually get off their lazy <deleted> and go and arrest these muppets.

And they haven't even done that as the majority turned themselves in because the story went viral.

 

I agree with Thechook however in thinking that as the kids of influential people are involved the chance of anything resembling actual justice is slim at best.

I have lived here many years and I still don't understand this pack mentality. Why can't the offended parties handle things on their own in Thailand? Why do they need a posse? 18 against 1. All this tells me is that the offended party is not a man, a pathetic specimen of life. 

 

I hope the student's mother is successful in having the guilty brought to justice.

No because they aren't actually police in the way we understand what police are supposed to be...these guys in brown uniforms are only trained to stop helmetless motor bike riders...that's it!...They aren't trained to work on the same level as police in the western world...all they do is put on a uniform and then walk around feeling like they are important and feel like they should be respected above everyone else

there is no money to be made from solving this crime. maybe the cops can collect some bribes from the offenders parents but that about it.

Don't hold your breath, cases like this are just not important to Thai people, the majority seem to accept it as normal, therefore, nothing is done.

Thai people saying, how awful isn't enough.

They have to care enough to stand up and demand that it is stopped forthwith, but......

 

We are waiting almost 3 years to find out who murdered my wife's son in one of these school gang fights.....

Of course we have given up.

The stress of trying to get justice would kill you!

 

RIP and I hope his family and friends can get over it soon.

 I have read this twice and I just want to be sure. 18 young men in riotous assembly with intent to commit violence led my a policeman's son went to one of the group's love rival's home. There they forced entry and not finding the rival none the less attacked three occupants stabbing them with knives and a screwdriver.

One of the victims later died.

They have been charged with murder AND RELEASED ON BAIL by the police.

I have it right ? Are the authorities serious ? Unbelievable.

This is a similar kind of case that's still working its way thru the courts. Sons of policemen are most of the suspects.

They should have been charged with first degree murder, but they weren't. At least, however, they're supposedly still in jail and not out on bail pending trial.

well there goes my thoughts of sending junior to school here in Thailand. No matter who much wit you got you can't beat the cowardly pack mentality. Especially in a country where only if you have more money than the other guy can you get anything done. But it is also an eye for an eye country still. So i would be looking over my shoulder for a long time if i were the perpetrator.
