webfact
No clear evidence police chief accepted ThaiBev money: Ombudsman By Sasiwan Mokkhasen, Staff Reporter Bangkok Police Chief Sanit Mahatavorn demonstrates the ‘mini heart’ sign on July 27 along with police, military officers and the 18-year-old vocational student who was a murder suspect in Bangkok. BANGKOK — A review of whether Bangkok’s police chief violated ethical standards ended Tuesday as the state watchdog said it lacked clear evidence he has ever received a salary from the country’s largest brewer. In the end, the State Ombudsman accepted the excuse made by Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn that the 50,000 baht monthly ThaiBev allowance disclosed on his own signed financial statements was entered by mistake. Psimbo
Of course there's no 'clear explanation' - they had a month to muddy the waters.
rkidlad
The junta are slowly but surely reforming the country. A clear example. As for the pic of them with their heart shaped fingers, this isn't a TV show. There has been a crime committed and you're duty to bound to investigate with tact and integrity. Stop showing off for the cameras and do your jobs. Someone has lost someone they love and all you can think about is 'what's in it for me?'. Abhorrent. z42
Absolutely ridiculous. After all the conflicting (BS) statements made the ombudsman didn't even investigate anything and have just accepted the word of the guy it should be their duty to investigate. And you'd have to ask yourself how much he is making legally.as 50k baht for a civil servant (albeit a high ranking one) is a pretty hefty slice of money. But as he'll likely have 100s of millions of baht swilling around in his accounts it's small potatoes anyways. Guess this is just proof (as if any was needed anyway) that this guy is in the untouchables set.. Or at least for now. Scum ?

Khun Han
Another example of the current mob's 'cherry picking' anti-corruption policy. It's just another weapon to be used to deal with enemies.

webfact
Ombudsman dropped probe against police chief Sanit By The Nation Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn BANGKOK: -- The Ombudsman’s Office has decided to end its probe into city police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn allegedly earning Bt50,000 a month as an adviser to the country’s biggest producer of alcoholic drinks, Thai Beverage, after deciding there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case. After a delay in providing information in the matter, Sanit told the Ombudsman’s Office that there was a mistake on his asset declaration as a new member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). He said he had asked others to handle the declaration for him and he had never worked for the firm. Thai Beverage said in a letter to the office that it did not hire Sanit as an adviser. Ombudsman’s Office secretary-general Rakkecha Chaechai was quoted as saying by Isara News Agency following a meeting of the office on Tuesday. Rakkecha said the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) would determine if Sanit had submitted all related documents for his asset declaration. But he said the documents presented would not be checked until after Sanit left the NLA position, at which time it would be determined if his assets were unusually amassed during the time he held the position. As his asset declaration included a Bt50,000 monthly adviser fee from Thai Beverage since 2015, Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the Association of Organisations for the Protection of the Thai Constitution, had filed a petition with the Ombudsman’s Office calling for a probe. Rakkecha said the Ombudsman’s Office sent a notice to Sanit warning him to be more careful in the future by thoroughly checking documents when complied by another person on his behalf and submitted to an official body signed by him. Rakkecha said Sanit’s excuse that a mistake had been made in the filling of the form is inappropriate. As a senior state official, Sanit must set a good example for others to follow or his ethics could be called into question, he said. “The ombudsman’s ruling didn’t say if Sanit is wrong or right because that is the NACC’s job,” Rakkecha said. “The ombudsman only considered the ethics in the matter. “So when the evidence against him remains unclear, we couldn’t take the matter any further. If in future Sanit turned out to be the firm’s adviser, then we would consider this case again.” Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/30309156 -- © Copyright The Nation 2017-03-

klauskunkel
Quote In the end, the State Ombudsman accepted the excuse made by Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn that the 50,000 baht monthly ThaiBev allowance disclosed on his own signed financial statements was entered by mistake. Of course. Let me see here, mistake no. 1: amount (50,000), mistake no. 2: time period (monthly), mistake no. 3: provenance (ThaiBev), mistake no 4: classification (allowance). In all, the good police chief made 4 mistakes on the statement and didn't realize it... Dementia?

sandemara
Well, personally I'm relieved. A mess tidily removed. Perfectly logical: the payments didn't occur or never existed With no evidence how could any court proceedings be justified? A win for the exemplary police chief and Thai Bev. Get Real
Yeah, of corse! It´s an easy mistake to declare 50000 Bath source of income since 2015. No problem, just a minor mistake. The question still stands??? If the money didn´t come from ThaiBev, where did it originate from then? I can not in my wildest dreams want to believe that somebody declare money that doesn´t exist. Can´t be that crazy, or can it???
darksidedog
Did anyone really expect anything different? The only thing about all of it that surprised me was that it came to light in the first place. As soon as he asked for more time to explain, it was abvious that the fix was being worked on and the result we have today was on its way. Time to do away with the "Amazing" and replace it with what it really is, Disgraceful Thailand.

In the end it's all about the juntas image and not allowing it to be undermined in anyway. Not that it hasn't been happening full steam ahead since they seized control. If it's all about saving face then he will eventually be forced by the powers to take an early retirement or be transfer somewhere or he will step down due to ill health. Whatever.
