I tried this in the travel forum, no answers, so I will try here. Due to the big buses stopping for fuel on the way to Pattaya, I thought I might try the minivans from

Mochit. Anyone done this? I wonder how much luggage they can take, what about a small case app 15 ins+15ins+8ins, an average sized bag and laptop in bag?

Thank you.

Before the expected barrage of TV-posters who will gonna tell you how bad the vans are:

Bad choice: 99% of vans will also stop for refuel after departure-often around bangNa.

Inside they are like any van-I assume you have travelled in them. If luggage to much/big, purchase an extra seat-this is certainly needed when your lugg is so big it goes in the hold in the big bus. In general they only go when all seats are paid for (or pre-ordered for later stops by fone).

Advantage might be they set you down closer by final dest. in Pattaya.

Thanks that's interesting, maybe I will just stick to my original plan, get train to Swampy, then bus to Pattaya, it lets me off not too far from my hotel.

That's how I usually do it as well, just be prepared for a 1-3 hrs wait at Swampy as seats on those Buses are usually sold out hours in advance. When this happens, I kill time by treating myself a 50-Baht meal at the food court next door and enjoy watching the eating (???) habits of Chinese mainlanders

I make the trip every 2 weeks. 3 hours is extremely rare. Usually on average about 1 to 1.5

I go down to the 7-11 near the entrance of the rail link and and buy cheap beer and relax with a few. Im surprised they are allowed to sell considering the price in the bars

I did it on Saturday a week ago and had to wait 2.5 hrs (arrived at 5pm, next Bus 7.30), but I will still continue to use those Buses as they stop literally next door to where I need to go.

I think you are referring to Bells buses. The bus I got last week made three stops in Pattaya, the last one being in Jomtein. I got the 8.30am bus. I had arrived about 8.10am, and The bus was full when it left right on time.

The 50 Bt meal will be Thai food, I do not like Thai food at all.

No, I am talking about the regular Airport Buses that terminate at the Thepprasit / Thapraya corner and stop at several Sukhumvit locations as well.

You don't like Thai food at all ? LOL...... well, welcome to Thailand then  ;-)

(there is a nice coffee counter at the small annex on the right side of the food court where you can treat yourself a Latte for the same amount, if Thai food is frightening you)

You are not going to believe this, but I do not like coffee either.

Next you will tell me where I can get a drink, don't bother, I don't drink.:cheesy:

I remember a few years ago I got a bus to Pattaya from the bus terminal at Swampy, but I would assume that is not the case anymore.

Bell trans picks up all along sukhumvit and I can buy tickets online.

is it a minivan or a full size coach bus with luggage compartment, anyone know?

They have vans picking up passengers at the hotels and taking them to their bus depot. Vans have plenty of storage in the back. Luggage is transferred to the bus. Arrive at Pattaya and if you paid for door to door then the luggage and you transfer to another van and are delivered to your hotel.

It's been a year but I used them in both directions multiple times over the last 3 years. I also used the Pattaya to HH bus. I like Bell. Good prices, good service.

Why not take the big coach from Morchit 2 Terminal?

Because they stop to refuel, don't get me wrong. I am never in a hurry, but refueling of big buses should never happen during a journey, especially one of only about two hours

There is a train from train station to pattaya @ 6:55am weekdays cost 31-120 baht for those who do not like buses or minivans and want some open air scenery on the way.

im going with this option. Looking forward to spreading out and not being crunched up with a bunch of musty crusty mates with ac on high. Also has the benefit of not needing to deal with van drivers, transfers etc.

also if someone farts, which they are going to do  in that time, I can just take a stroll, and don't have to smell it and be afraid to roll the window down, mate.

That's always amazed me, and in China, too.  They probably hold enough fuel to go 1000 km, but always seem to stop.  The ones that really get my goat are the ones that drive an additional 10 minutes out of the way to get to their fuel stop, after passing 10 of them right on the route.  I can never figure out if it's graft and corruption, or a company purchasing contract to save $1.00 while wasting 40 man-hours of their passengers' lives.

Happy ending with Bell Travel Service in Pattaya this week. I am in my 70s and went into their cool office waiting for my friend to arrive from the airport. The lady at the desk asked if she can help me. I informed her I was waiting for a friend but suddenly she began shouting questions loudly at me across the room. Very unnecessary and I'm sure this would not have happened if I was wearing a business suit instead of shorts/tshirt/trainers. A young man had a polite word with her in Thai. I could hear her arguing back to him but eventually she came over to me and apologized.

Have you figured out how you will get from the station into Pattaya?

Although in the opposite direction, this will give you some idea what to expect.
