Viral video: Thai maths teacher just wants to make her lessons fun!

BANGKOK: -- A video has gone viral that shows a primary school maths teacher dancing in front of her class to teach young students their times tables.

 

The high energy teaching method was very well received by Thai netizens online who praised the teacher for making lessons fun and interesting for young children.

 

The school in question is the Bang Bor Community School in Samut Prakarn and yesterday 77Jowo reporters caught up with the attractive lady doing the dancing...and the teaching!

 

He name is Chandapha Phrompornmi otherwise affectionately known to the children as Khru Jin.

 

She said that she had brought something she learnt during her teacher training at university to this high energy and fun class. And she said that she always remembered when she was a child that she used to learn better when lessons were fun and energetic.

Well it all may look good for the cameras but for me it is all about her and not the pupils. Which is not what it is about.

I'm all in favour of having a lively class, and if this method works and students do in fact remember their times tables, then so be it. I remember mine, but our teacher most certainly didn't act the monkey.

What scares me the most is not the clowning about, but the fact that she learnt this at university(!) "she learnt during her teacher training at university". What kind of university was that?!?!

 

She can come teach me the times table in Thai, though. 

Should be the kids dancing.

She can make things fun and interesting for me anytime.

I like a woman who has plenty of energy, go girl go.

Does she give private lessons? I need to brush up on my calculus.

All Thai can say numbers but when it comes to adding up most need a calculator...

and even then they will punch in the numbers a few times to be sure the calculator is correct.

At your age shouldn't you know how to tell the difference between what clearly is prathom ages students and older ones?

No need to memorize stupid time tables, it would be better if the students where taught to understand the tables instead. For example why is 6+6 not 66?

And some people look really good in uniform........

Don't knock this.  If she trained as a primary school teacher, then that training should include lectures and workshops about how to keep young learners interested in the lesson and topics.  That will include all manner of classroom activities, such as using flashcards, games, multimedia, song and dance.

 

Students of different ages learn differently and song and dance activities naturally appeal to the younger learners.

 

If it works - don't knock it (says I, just about to do a song and dance routine for my class of 5-year olds!).

Agreed, it should be an activity for the students, encouraged or demonstrated by the teacher.

Something else that needs to change in Thai classrooms  is putting tables and chairs together of young students in small groups.This will better let them work together and develop communication and expression skills.

Yes agreed - there are so many things that need to change in Thai classrooms to improve the classroom environment and learning experience.

I know people will harp on about education, impropriety or whatever, but this uniqueness is why I love Thailand. Won't see it anywhere else. Oh, and yes, she is gorgeous!

They should know them at half that age. 

 

However, where does it say the children are 16?

That's why the Thai education system is so backward. Chinese, Korean and Japanese students are already doing algebra at these ages, not singing in the classroom having a good time.

When I went  to school it was the rote system boring but effective ive  never forgot the times tables  now 60 years on its implanted in the brain.

When I see the joys one finds in this classroom, I want to go back to school, even if only for a day or two  55555

If they're going to learn like parrots they might as well flap their wings like parrots as well.

Some are also killing themselves if they're not near the top of their class as teenagers.
