OK gents sorry to start another fan thread BUT mine is working fine on second and third speeds but does not work on the lowest, blades turn freely no problem there, its 6 years old is there a simple "fix" or is it a sign its on its way out.........if so I,ll wait until death is final

At 6 years it's probably time for a new capacitor, a cheap and easy fix.

If that doesn't do it chances are it's the speed control switch.

Pretty sure you can get both at Amorn.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

My bet: it's the "0-1-2-3" "radio button switches" that have worn out.

("speed control switch" as Crossy writes)

In your case it's likely the spring contact of "1" which has become "tired".

And be happy if it ran 6 years.

I have two fans with broken radio buttons after two years or so

One could be recovered by a little streching/bending but for how long...

The other one I have replaced with a rotary knob from a retired wall fan

For DIY the fix would cost 45 Baht for a new switch.

Just that in the only shop in our little town they are "sold out".

Go and try to find a specialized shop/repair booth to get if fixed.

A picture from the net of this 4x Baht metal piece.

From OP believe best to take to a fan repair shop to fix - should be easy and inexpensive.  But as said at 6 years you have probably obtained normal life if used often - but predicting death is rather hard.   Would you like an excuse for a new remote controlled fan?

When a switch like this breaks on one of my fans, I hard wire it to the "fast" speed and put an in line switch on the power cord where it goes into the fan.  Yeah, it's now only one speed, high, but in this heat do you ever use any other setting, I don't?

I did similar thing some time ago and by using an on-off-on switch that I had laying around was able to use two speeds

where does one find the capacitor on yer typical floor fan? nothin' visible on the power supply...easy replacement? slot in/slot out?

I need to show the wife as she usually fixes things around here...gotta whole house fulla junk that needs fixin'...

Usually screw on top if the gearbox attached to the back of the motor.
