It's official: Bangkok BRT won't be shut down

BANGKOK — The capital’s rapid bus transit system will continue moving passengers through southern Bangkok – at a higher fare – after it won a stay of execution from the governor Monday.

 

After weeks of will-they-won’t-they suspense for the roughly 25,000 daily commuters who rely on the service, Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang announced the Bangkok BRT won’t be scrapped, but its fares increased to 15 baht.

Appears the BRT system will still be at operating at a loss. The 5 to 15 Baht fare is slated to add 90 million Baht, yet it is currently operating at a 200 million Baht loss. So now only a 110 million Baht loss? The math still doesn't add up.

B90m more income, B90m less loss does add up.  No one said it would now operate at a profit, but it might if more people use it.
