Painters still haven't shown up & I've been pondering this quite often (maybe overthinking).

Service will come from a 15/45 meter across the road to a pole in our yard with a weatherproof service box. I'm considering putting the MEN connection in that box, which is approximately 33 meters from the houses panel. In the pole box will be a CCS 2P 63amp MCCB, a surge protection device & minimum one 2+ meter ground rod at the base. The polls box Ground buss bar will be connected to the  Ground buss in the houses panel and I'm thinking that will still be a legitimate MEN connection. ???  I would go to PEA with a drawing & these questions but I know how that would go (been there, done that).

Reasoning: I'm using Schneider independent  rcbo cb's, some as sensitive as 10mA. If anything opens it's easiest path will be the panels G buss bar & a earthing rod 8 meters from the buss bar. I'm thinking a trip to that G buss with a MEN there may compromise the rcbo's protection ability. ???

Reasoning for SPD on the pole vs in the panel: If a surge >275V occurs (not in or around our immediate property of course) & the device closes, it's easiest path will be straight down the pole into E. It does still have a path to the house panels G buss where it could access devices & appliances but would be a much longer route to make.

If this is crazy talk please note some explanation so I can be at peace with the final install;-)

Thanks in advance!

So long as your N-E connection (there should only be one) is upstream of your RCD/RCBO then all will be fine.

You are correct in your assertion that the ground from your SPD should be as short as possible.

Since you have sensitive equipment in the house I would include additional L-N surge protection in the consumer unit and in each outlet (slip a small MOV into the outlet back box). I think I've linked to the ones I used in one of your other threads.

Thanks Crossy, you're lightning fast.

MOV's you recommended are ready for install & there is another SPD in the consumer unit that opens @ >275, cuts L&N, doesn't send surge to ground.

I'm off to the site to look for any water issues. It's been pouring here.
