Ratchanok Intanon

All Thai representatives including defending champion Ratchanok Intanon were eliminated in the Malaysia Open Super Series quarter-finals on Friday.

Ratchanok collapsed in her title defence campaign for a second straight week as she lost to world No 3  Carolina Marin of Spain 8-21 21-18 12-21  seven days after failing to defend her Indian Open at this same stage. It was sweet revenge for Marin who was stunned by the Thai in the All England Open last month, squandering a huge 18-11 lead in the final game.

Ratchanok still has to defend her title in Singapore next week.

The exit of Ratchanok added further bad news for Thai fans as Thais were shown the exit in three categories earlier.

In the men’s doubles, Bodin Isara and Niphitphon Phuangphuapet swent down to second seeded Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonida of Japan 16-21 19-21.

Dechapol Puavaranukhroh and Kittinupong Kerden lost to  Chai Biao and Hong Wei of China 19-21 22-20 16-21.

Dechapol and Sapsiree Taerattanachai went down to Chinese fourth seeded Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong 16-21 17-21.
