If you’re in Bangkok over the Thai new year, you can celebrate the Songkran festival at the “Siam Paragon Songkran Wonderland 2017”.

The fair invites everyone to pay their respects to nine ancient Buddha statues associated with Thailand’s gracious kings and on loan from the National Museum, before going on to enjoy contemporary Thai music, witness a loincloth fashion show presented by top Korean male models and indulge in a unique food festival. The event runs from Tuesday (April 11) to April 16 at the mall’s Parc Paragon and Hall of Fame.

The Culture Ministry together with the Fine Arts Department, and the Department of Cultural Promotion add to tradition with the exhibition “Thai-Style Songkran: Efficient Use of Water. Save Every Life” reminding Thais and foreigners alike of the need to conserve water.

A giant avatar of the Songkran Devi, who this year carries the name Kirinee Devi, will also be at the show. Wearing a bracelet and magnolia flowers behind her ears, she eats nuts and sesame seeds and has a hook in her right hand and a gun in her left.

The celebratory event features a water-pouring ceremony, an exhibition of the pouring-water-and-asking-for-blessing sets belonging to the country’s four regions, and Thai incense-making demonstrations.

The activities on Tuesday start at 5pm at the Hall of Fame, M Floor and include a special fashion show by Hive Salon with Korean male models presenting a collection of loincloth creations by Thai designers.

On Tuesday, Apichart Pak Waan and Kor Phai entertain from 5. On Wednesday, Civilize, iHear, and DJ Joox bands take the stage followed by Sawassdee, The Paradise Bangkok Molam International and Suphannahong on April 13.  Bangkok wake up, iHear and DJ Joox are back on April 14, Sabai, Suphannahon and DJ Joox play on April 15 and Sawassdee band, Keng The Voice and Ra-nad EDM from Cnan Dancer team close out the event on April 16. A book about the Buddha statues will be on sale for Bt100 with proceeds going to the National Museum. Find out more at (02) 610 8000.
