NAKHON NAYOK: -- Large crowds gathered to watch an unfolding drama in Nakhorn Nayok yesterday when a man took his four year old daughter up a 35 meter high telephone mast.

The man's wife arrived to try to talk him down over the phone and after she went up in a maintenance bucket extension he decided to hand over the child and come down, reported Thai Rath.

The crowd cheered as the husband and wife hugged.

Then it was straight off to rehab for the drug addict husband.

The drama began when Udorn, aged about thirty from Ongkharak district, went into a store run by a retired policeman to buy a telephone card. After making the purchase he shimmied up the mast with his daughter and placed a red cord round his and necks.

He was threatening to jump.

Police arrived and foundation medics set up an air mattress below in case he carried out his threats. The wife called Jan arrived and after three hours in the high heat it was all resolved.

Udorn's 75, year old father said that his son was on drugs. He had got upset after his wife, who works in a chicken processing plant, did not come home on time.

Udorn was immediately referred to drug rehabilitation.

"He had got upset after his wife, who works in a chicken processing plant, did not come home on time."

Don't blame the drugs. Some, many would argue most, boys in Thailand are spoiled and raised to believe they are entitled just because they possess a Y chromosome. What he did was put his daughter in a life threatening situation because his wife did not come home from work on time to serve him, after she spent the day earning money to keep a roof over her family's head and put food on the table. That's not a sign of drug addiction. That's a sign of being spoiled rotten with absolutely no sense of responsibility. This "man" should not be allowed to be near his child until he grows up...In other words...Never.

For putting his childs life in danger, he should be imprisoned. That would certainly stop him seeing his child!

It seems that he had a plan to make a Call or at least be somehow electronically available rather than to jump...??...

Maybe he thought the Connection would be at its best by connecting himself directly to the Telephone mast...??...;)

Credit to the wife. Married to that guy ,who wouldn't come home late once in a while, paricularly working in a chicken factory. But she sorted him, saved the child and still gave him a hug. Well done her!!!

Don't know how good rehab clinics in Thailand are but there shouldn't be a problem for them to find patients.  Thailand is full of drug addicts.

agree.

my staff has 1 day off everyweek usually on mondays.(retail work).

her husband always make a big fuss of her having to work on the weekends and goes out to drink with friends and sometimes post pictures of other ladies having a good time together on facebook.

his excuse is that his wife has no time for him. But he does not make enough money to take care of the whole family of 5 ( they have 3 more kids).

recently he has demanded his wife to quit her job but she can't cos they are still in debt.

the man does not takes drugs at all.

Its the mindset and attitude, these men have to grow up and let their wive's do their part too in taking care of the family if they themselves can't.

Agree...this is not s drug case but just a lazy irrational dangerous individual....

child endangerment at the very least...but Thais don't see it that way....

this is will be a case of the Thai gov/society not taking accountability and end up with the daughter and or wife being victims of this man down the road

bank on it...

I read a book on early travellers in South East Asia it mentioned a Chinese traveller went to Thailand about 500 years ago and he found the native men very lazy all the business were conducted by the wives.

Lazy for 500 years is a long time . His wife had to work in chicken processing factory and he does what? Nothing? Doing nothing for 500 years?

Oh well, the child is safe, the mother has the child and guy is in rehab. In that respect it's a good ending, a good news story.

Stay tuned for part 2.

Oh, and happy Songkran all, stay safe, stay sane!

Isn't funny no matter what happens they always find an excuse, being in a accident or beating someone to death or shooting  someone, blame it on the drugs, or the weather or the colour wasn't right,or he upset somebody, or it was the alcohol,or the traffic light change colour to quick. But But Never the persons fault.Isn't that amazing.Grow up you weak sod, own up to you're faults and admit you're wrong for ones in you're life.yuck!
