Any ATM's before immigration?

Bearing in mind recent reports relating to refusal to admit visa holders at Suwannaphoom, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have 20,000 Baht in my pocket when entering Thailand on a tourist visa.

 

Are there Baht-dispensing ATM's before immigration?

 

I will be carrying a lot of £ notes but apparently they don't count, it has to be Baht.

The will accept the equivalent of 20k baht in a foreign currency.

The only report of it not being accepted that I can recall was at a a southern border crossing.

There are exchanges in the baggage hall and ATM's. I wouldnt change cash there though as the rate is not as good as outside.

Does not help the question. Baggage hall is after immigration.

He would need the cash before passing immigration.

But anyway, post #2 says it.

Foreign equivalent is OK. No need for Thai Baht cash.

Yes, in departures after immigration, but not in arrivals before immigration.

Never needed one before immigration but I thought there used to be an exchange boot with atm left before going up to immigration. There is however an ATM in Transit area but only dispenses US dollar.

Bring your visa card with you that is sufficient, no need to have any cash on you. There are probably exceptions but those usually relate to individuals from countries like India, Afghanistan and similar.

Well, latest reports say that a visa card or a bank book a.s.o. is not enough. In fact there were at least on case that entry was refused because of no funds, a walk to the Atm was not offered, Asfaik, not from India or thelike. Guess, a quota had to be fullfilled that day.

I find it utter nonsense to travel out of the country with +20K just to have them on you when returning.But then again, you have to deal with utter nonsense on a daily basis, so that might be alright. 

What is actually the (legal) amount you can bring out of the country without declaring? Was that 50K?

Just thinking, I might take 20K for myself and 3x 10K for my visitors, and I hit already the limit.

Any equivalent of 20k$ US is allowed to be brought into Thailand without having to declare it.

There is no upper limit, any amount above the 20k$ must be declared.

 

I fall under the visa exempt so don't need to apply for visa on arrival. Never been asked if I had enough money on me. 
But if you need to apply for visa on arrival, you do need that amount on you as it is a prerequisite for the application.
