I've got a couple computers at home, not new purchases, for which I'd like to expand/upgrade their RAM memory by either adding or replacing DIMM cards.

In the U.S., I'd simply go online at buy from big memory vendors like Crucial or Simple that have DIMMs to pretty much fit any computer, old or new.

But here in BKK, I have no idea of whether there are any similar online or retail shops that carry a broad, comprehensive selection of memory for less than new model PCs???

Where do you buy your computer memory upgrades here?  (Thanks!!!)

You can buy at www.jib.co.th or go to Jib outlets at any major shopping malls. Pantip mall is good place too.

First you have to figure out which memory you need, you can look that up in the manual of the mainboard or computer. If your computer is a few years old your computer probably uses DDR3, if a bit older it uses DDR2... and if we talking older than that if uses DDR memory (but then also forget trying to upgrade).

Also, kingston.com maintains a comprehensive index of computer memory requirements.

Many shops at Fortune (Rama-9 MRT) selling memory.  There is a very big JIB store on 3rd floor.

I've purchased a lot of stuff from AliExpress and haven't gotten stuck yet.

I know exactly what kind/spec of memory I need for my PC upgrades.  I'm just looking for what are the best kind of places that are going to carry a broad selection, especially for couple year old models, as opposed to brand new ones.

There are some local Thai memory-centric web-sites which offer web ordering.

And places like Lazada have a decent selection of sellers, from which you can follow back to the shop, which almost always have a physical presence somewhere.

I'm looking for a specific memory upgrade for my Notebook now,

8GB 2 X 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1066MHz PC3-8500 204 pin 1.5 V, low density, 8 chips per card.

and while it is easy to find in the U.S., it is a bit more challenging here. Prices seem to be ~ 2x here, at least for what I'm looking for, so may wait until my next trip back to the U.S.

I'd do a search via Facebook and Google for the general type DDR3, DIMM, speed etc, along with terms like "Bangkok", "FortuneTown", "Panthip" (or "pantip" to search that social media platform). Or ask a Thai person to search for you, they will find 4 ~ 5 shops in a matter of seconds, assuming a relatively popular type.

There are PC Memory-specific shops in both Fortune Town and Panthip, I've been advised by a Thai colleague.

I did find this one

www.memorytoday.com/  FortuneTown 3R22, supposed to have a decent selection.

and www.priceza.com has a decent search engine.

Thanks MTLS for those suggestions/info, and also to those others who posted other info above!!!

I looked at JIB's website, and they seemed to have memory for DDR2 to DDR4 specs in various speeds and configurations, enough to cover a lot of situations.

Yes, MemoryToday looks pretty decent. Their website is all in Thai, but they do have an online price list that's easily readable showing their memory products for laptops, desktops, etc...

That's the thing about FortuneTown for me. I've been there a million times, and wandered all around the place many times for different needs at different times. But trying to find one particular thing there at any given time, among all the hundreds of small and not always well signed/described shops, can be a challenge. I don't ever REMEMBER seeing MemoryToday's shop before. But from the photo, it certainly looks pretty visible.

Meh. They sell Android boxes, phones and USB sticks, no PC memory. Maybe the name fooled you?

Yes, Memory Today is shop 3R22, so 3rd floor in FortuneTown. Massive inventory, nice folks, English fine, if they don't have what you want they can get it. They had what I was looking for, just double the price of that in the U.S., so ~ $98 here vs. $50 (all in) in the U.S.

ya, last time I needed new PC memory, I ordered from Crucial in the U.S., and then had it re-shipped by my mail forwarder...

But by the time it arrived here, it either was a defective board, or had been damaged en-route, possibly the latter.

If I ship from the U.S. again, I'll make sure it goes in a box, and not a padded envelope like the last time.

Ended up buying a 2 GB DDR3 memory card from the Memory Today shop at FortuneTown over the weekend. Shop seems OK, and the guy in charge there spoke good English. As the map above shows, it's along the back wall of the FortuneTown Mall toward the Tesco-Lotus end on the 3rd floor.

Their price for the memory was about $23 total, and they accepted bank card for payment. Comparable memory from Crucial.com in the U.S. is listed at $19 with free domestic U.S. shipping. But by the time I re-shipped the memory to Thailand, the total cost to me would have been about $29 for the purchase and re-shipping. So buying local in this case made sense.

The shop advertised the memory as having a lifetime warranty, and claimed if it ever started having problems on its own, I could take it back to them and they'd replace it. The memory chip I bought had an off-brand name on the outside, but when I installed it in my PC and ran diagnostics just to check, it showed as having been manufactured by Samsung.
