Hiring a Shan as a maeban

Featured Replies

I want to hire this couple for my house and they are Shan from Burma. They have their documents and work permit but would now be changing jobs. What do I need to do to as their new employer to make them legally working for me...??

Thanks in advance!

They usually know and bring you the required papers, then you can check them with a Thai reader if you are not.  Depending on what they have and do not have, you may have to go to an office with them.

Thanks Dante... maybe that's what I need to do .just go to Immigration myself and find out... That would be at airport Immigration right ? My Thai is not that great and they speak a bit of a different Thai so a bit hard to communicate with them... Anyway thanks for your help~!!

I was suggesting that you let your prospective workers provide you with the documents they need to be registered as working for you.  Then have a Thai reader confirm that they are acceptable to you.  I think going to immigration by yourself would not be productive but you may need to go with your workers at some point.

But what the hell do I know, having only had 4 Burmese Shan workers in the past 5 years.
