Taxi driver found dead beside vehicle near airport

By The Nation

A taxi driver was found dead beside his taxi on a road near Suvarnabhumi Airport late Friday night, police said.

The body of Somchai Mekkhala, 53, was found lying on Suvarnabhumi Road 3 with the driver’s door left ajar.

The body was spotted at around 11pm. Police suspect he may have been dead for about five hours at that time.

Police believe the driver possibly suffered a heart attack and parked his taxi by the side of the road to call for help.

R.I.P. such a lonely way to go.

I would not stop at a parked taxi next to the airport, there are literally hundreds parking outside the airport on the elevated roads leading to and from Suvarnabhumi.

I met a nice one. He paused the meter when we were stuck in traffic for ages.

Met another who would not take me when i told him i wanted to go to Bangkok hospital. At least he shook his head before driving away.

I even was "tipped" by them a couple of times. That is, the fare was rounded downwards. On arrival to BKK airport. Like, the meter reads 208, and he sais 200 is OK, and just won't take anything more.

R.I.P to the gentleman cabbie
