Airport layovers

Featured Replies

Have a friend flying from SYD-BKK with a connecting flight to Frankfurt, she has a fourteen hour wait in the airport. Arrives in the morning at the crack of dawn so I'm asking any ideas what to do for her?

My experiences with Swampy was to get out as fast as possible have never stayed there, so what is available in terms of a place to crash out after a nine hour flight, any tried and good restaurants, any suggestions I'm not sure she can get out and get into Bangkok itself, thank you.

Is she waiting at Frankfurt or Swampy?

Frankfurt has a lot of lounge chairs tucked away that someone can dose on...

But, what works best is to pay to use one of the airline privilege lounges with food, showers, wifi & places to relax....Most will let you use for a fee - about $50....

Why would she need to hang around her destination airport?

nearby hotel, get some sleep and a good meal, catch the next leg refreshed.

Is she staying "airside" in transit, or is she actually going through immigration and able to move around outside ?

She's flying from Sydney to Bangkok, then the layover waiting for the connecting flight to Frankfurt, I will find out more and report back as it is in a couple of weeks but thought I'd ask in advance and give her info.

Tons of places around swampy with a pool and restaurant  for a decent price. We generally stay somewhere different each time we transit.

Try tripadvisor or travago.

What nationality is your friend?

The very majority of nationals will have no problems to leave the transit area with an exempt entry stamp (also as she has proof of onward travel).

14h "airside" would kill me for boredom.

Also everything expensive.

Cheapest meal might be fried rice for 200 Baht :shock1:
