District chief trots out the same old epithets as yet another "sex clean up" of Pattaya goes through the motions

PATTAYA: -- Bang Lamung district chief Naris Niramaiwong joined an entourage of local police and soldiers parading through Pattaya on Tuesday.

According to the chief they were doing important work under government orders to clear up the illegal sex trade in karaoke shops, beer bars and soapy massage establishments or ap-op-nuat, reported Siam Chon News.

They were also on the lookout for illegal immigrants, illegal foreign workers and signs of human trafficking and other illegal activity.

Naris - who in February mounted a similar raid embarrassing a UK man caught with his trousers down in a short time room above a Go-Go

establishment on Valentine's Day - said it was part of improving tourism at the resort.

He also didn't want the resort to be called "sex capital of the world" anymore, reported Siam Chon News.

The report of the party's activities did not mention a single arrest or incident encountered by the group on their foray into the resort's nightlife.

Just another photo opportunity, with, yet again, no results.

Copy and paste again next month.

And for that we should all be grateful!

Those who oppose liberal views on sex are free not to participate,  but just because some find it 'amoral' is no reason to shut it down.  Sometimes, tho very rarely, the total lack of results of police work is to our advantage.

I concur. Don't give in to political correctness.

All of these so-called raids are B/S. They will never stop the sex tourism

nor do they want to.

There is too much money involved!!!!!

This isn't political correctness, it's regressive conservative dogma.

Yet, the public screwing in the Tuk-Tuk and on the sea front in Samui was not seen as a problem.

Just say I am sorry and they let you be on your way.

To be fair, they haven't said they want to stop sex tourism. They want to stop illegal activities such as brothels, underage prostitution and illegal foreign sex workers. The vast majority of gogos and other bars that cater for tourists are not being affected, unless they break the rules.

The reason pattaya became and remains a modern day sodom and gomorrah is due to westerners.

Dirty depraved western tourists and sexpats have made it what it is.

Spoken like a rabid bible thumper.

I do believe the statement blaming westerners to be totally untrue. The sex scene was readily available in every asian country long before any significant western presence occurred. In Indonesia whole villages were and are being maintained by the army solely for the purpose of having somewhere for the soldiers to go and partake, and in places like Bangkok the "Thai for Thai" scene totally dwarfs the Farang scenes evident in the Patpong, Nana Plaza, and Soi Cowboy areas. Westerners come here because they enjoy the ease and availability of things not freely available in their own hypocritical countries. Just because there are brighter lights outside the establishments aimed at the Farang market does not mean anything other than it is now more visible.

It's funny you know, that which nature makes pleasurable, like sex and the appreciation of the female/male form, people always want to put the mockers on it. At least they say they do. I think it's more hypocrisy than genuine belief, they're looking to get something out of it.

They have no objection to guys belting the living daylights out of each other in the many Muay Thai rings dotted around Walking Street etc. I do enjoy boxing, but you have to get things into perspective. They seem equally unconcerned about the the violence that goes on all over Thailand and the millions of undocumented guns in circulation. While they're posing here for the cameras, they could be putting their time into catching real violent criminals.

There are aspects of the sex trade which need clamping down on, the underage sex trade for a start, also sex slavery.

I know nothing will come of it, it's just a photo op for this preening peacock of a boss man, I just wish these people would put more time into sorting out the real problems of this town like infrastructure; banning the big buses from the town centre; fixing things like CCTV cameras, street lights etc; clamping down on bad driving; rounding up stray dogs; cleaning up the beaches/sea etc etc etc.

Saying that I do love Pattaya and wish they'd leave the sex trade alone. That's what it's famous for, even though there are many other attractions.

And road trauma goes unchecked as does the loss of life in southern Thailand! Are the governing authorities inept and bereft of ideas how to deal with these REAL problems (including corruption) and therefore just play "face saving" games? :whistling:

Patting yourself on the back does not make you go forward!

Meanwhile, in other news, and old lady s beaten by Thai youths, 2 bombs have caused extensive damage an injury in the South and Boss is still on the loose.

They need a new PR company - this one is not working.

Naris has a strange, reoccurring dream: the more walks he undertakes with soldierlings and policeboys by his side, the more will the world see Pattaya in a new light and conform to his wishes. Naris is quite delusional.

Agree. The Pattaya farang sex trade is only the tip of the iceberg in Thailand. All over Thailand, as soon as it gets dark, you see the red lights of the karaoke bars appear out of the ground, squashed in between buildings and on waste ground. When the sun rises they vanish as if they'd never been there. This happens in most small towns and villages and I'm sure that in most of them you can pay for sex.

These places were around long before farang came to Thailand in numbers. Blaming farang for this and many other things is a typical Thai trait. They'll never own up to anything, nothing's ever their fault.

In Lamphun the bars for Thais don't disappear with the dawn. There are a few areas where they are permanent fixtures.

Well as i see there wont be any "clean up" happen. Why should it happen..?.all what police and soldiers are doing while walking along walking street is to show off themselves as the protectors of a false moral.

What happens in Pattaya with sex and drug and....happens in all smaller cities in Thailand, just not farangs are the customers as the thais adore it by themself!

And as long all the administration "big heads" and police is involved in the business and it makes good money: why should they stop it???????

Some precedent:  In 2002, Thaksin and his right hand man Interior Sec. Purachai, took it upon themselves to 'clean up' Thailand of sex business.  They had some successes in smaller cities, but didn't even attempt the three meccas; Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket, because those places were controlled by too-powerful Army/Police/Politician top brass.  Chiang Mai got slowed down, but not shut down, in that regard, at that time also.

After doing their damage, Thaksin stayed outside of Thailand, and Purachai has been in NZ ever since.
