Cabbie returns THB100,000 to tourist, turns out money was for cancer treatment

A Suvarnabhumi taxi driver returned cash worth nearly THB100,000 to a tourist from Myanmar on Monday, who later revealed the money was for his wife’s cancer treatment.

Adding to the list of tourists who have forgotten stacks of money in Thai cabs and the Bangkok taxi drivers who have returned the funds, Charin Sinsiri found two red purses containing money in three different currencies in his cab: USD2,500; GBP100; and MMK275,000 on Sunday.

Charin told police that he assumed the purses belonged to the four Myanmar tourists who took his taxi to Sukhumvit Soi 1, so he drove back to the drop-off spot to locate them.

Too many people are wise to the returning money nonsense, now the stories are getting an extra twist to go with the worsening behaviour of taxi drivers..

I read it the same but staring with government.

I actually had a cabbie return my passport and other important things which I left in his cab a few weeks ago, and this after I angrily got out of his cab without closing his door when he tried to get 400 baht from me for a ride to DMK which we both knew was only 175 baht.  There are honest and good cabbies in Thailand.  There are also a few dishonest ones, and most are just average, like most people.  I don't think they are a special group either way.  I think a lot of the grumpy people on thaivisa would have kept this money if they found it on the street.

Depends if they was ID with the money I would return it. With no ID turn it over to the BIB and kiss it goodbye.

Good work from the Cabbie. Now if only this topic was negative there would be hundreds of whining replies. Pity people cannot extend good comments as willingly as negative comments.
