Western Boxing in Chiang Mai??

Featured Replies

Any Western Boxing trainers/classes/gyms?? I have had a few knee surgeries so Muy Thai Boxing is NOT and option for me. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most Muay Thai gyms have trainers that are also good boxers, and they'll be happy to spar with or train you in that discipline.  I'd ask at whatever gym is local to you, and I'd be surprised if they couldn't accommodate you.

I disagree with that.  Most Muay Thai guys are pretty bad boxers,  which is no wonder as they spend 80+ percent of the training time on other things than throwing punches with their hands.   The stance of Muay Thai is also very different from boxing.

So I don't think attempting to train boxing with muay thai guys is a good idea.

I've seen the occasional advertisement for western boxing here in Chiang Mai, but can unfortunately not remember any off-hand at the moment.  Possibly it was at Chiang Mai university or at the big 700 years sport centre?

I agree with AWK,   Two VERY different styles. Stance, footwork, and striking.

Wester style boxing classes at "Chiang Mai Fight Fit" its an MMA gym that has instructors and classes in many different styles (Boxing, Muy Thai, BJJ, Wresling, Judo ect)  They have "Western style Boxing" classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00pm, I think its about 300 baht per class.

Hope this helps mate!

Really?  It's different?  After years of practicing Muay Thai in Thailand you'd think I'd know that...;)

As I said, many gyms have trainers who are decent boxers- it's not unusual for a foreigner to walk into a camp and ask about boxing, and there's generally a trainer who can spar with them (they change up their footwork and everything...)

I get the sense the OP is looking for a workout and some sparring, and not looking to challenge for a title- if that's the case, it's worth checking out a local gym.

I was training Muay thai at a great muay thai gym called: Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym,  http://chiangmai-muay-thai-gym.business.site/
Highest voted on Google and people (and myself) are very pleased with the service provided. It's located north west inside old town:

The bad thing is that I hurt my knee during my trip to Pai and can barley bend it, which means I can't train Muay thai.. I'm going back to Sweden in 10 days so I would like to sell my last classes.
A one time class costs 390 bath and 5 times is 1800 bath.
I now sell one time for 250 bath and 5 times  for 1100 bath.

I'll meet you at the gym to give you the card with the classes and we will speak with the owner so you get a guarantee it is 100% valid before any payment.
