BANGKOK: -- Ninety-two people were arrested in a joint Army-police raid on a gambling den in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Tuesday night.

Investigators seized Bt196,185 in cash along with gambling equipment.

Twenty-nine migrant workers were among those arrested in the raid on a two-storey building on Soi Lat Phrao 119 in Klong Chan sub-district at 10pm Tuesday.

First Cavalry Squadron (King’s Guard) commander Colonel Noppasit Sitthipongsopon, leading the operation with Lat Phrao police superintendent Pol Colonel Saksit Meesawat, said complaints of suspicious night-time activity at the building had been received.

Since no one admitted to running the gambling den or owning the building, the names of all of those found on the premises had been submitted to Lat Phrao police for further legal action.

So 92 have been charged because nobody thought about nipping down to the land registry office to find out who owned the property.  ****in unbelievable!

How much money did the police pocket? 92 arrested and 192,000 baht seized. That is a little over 2,000 baht per person. Pretty low stakes or that was the cutoff amount to show what a good job they are doing.

You will notice that the Army was there with the BIB .The Bib take the brown envelops for these places to stay open and would never bust a gambling den. There are fully functioning gambling dens in downtown Bangkok that are for the bigwigs that have such good connections that even the Army are warned to stay away.A couple of these were busted in the last coup.

I never really understood why card games are banned but lottery is legal... is lottery a game of skill?

Lottery ticket sales are supposed to be by handicapped persons so a job creation program

for them. Unfortunately this is often not the case.

So they could let handicapped people run casinos and gambling dens and problem solved.  Like Rain man - the house always wins! - Wapner at 6 oclock!
