webfact Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Tourist boats at Krabi beach halt services By The Nation KRABI: -- Some 100 long-tailed tourist boats at the Haad Nopparat Thara Beach in Krabi province halted their services on Wednesday because of the high waves in the sea. The boats were moored on Wednesday morning after waves rose two to three metres high. The officials also put up red flags on the beaches of Koh Hong in Tambon Khao Thong in Than Bokkoranee National Park to warn tourists against swimming. Haad Nopparat Thara National Park officials warned tourists to put on a life vest before going out into the sea and they were allowed to swim only at designated zones. Meanwhile, Krabi deputy governor Somkhuan Khanngern warned residents of Krabi’s eight districts to brace for heavy rains and possible flash floods and mudslides. richard_smith237 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Smart move. Its good to see some proactive thinking and consideration of peoples safety. Now, if they could take the precaution and move people away from the areas at particularly high risk of flash-flooding and particularly mudslides until the risk levels subside further lives can be saved. Khun Robert Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) So, out of the more than 1600 boats, 100 stopped their service due to high waves. National Park is again rising red flags on the islands, which is the destination of the tourists. Seems not safe to me or proactive thinking, send out the boat on high waves and rain to arrive at an island to be told there are waves and it rains, be careful. In mine humble opinion the red flag should be waved at the harbor or departure place and National Park should just close the harbor for safety till better sea conditions. Stargeezr Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 The low tourist season or the rainy season, seems to be a good time to halt boats from venturing into the seas when It is dangerous for them and the brave rainy tourists who do show up in Thailand.
