Unsafe Future Park bridge "assembled incorrectly by contractors"

BANGKOK: -- Further details have emerged about the closed U-turn bridge to Future Park shopping center.

The bridge is set to be closed for at least a month after the Highways Department inspected it and said that the constructors were to blame for assembling it incorrectly.

The bridge was shut Tuesday after members of the public took pictures of gaping holes in the structure and posted them on social media.

There were fears that the bridge, used by thousands daily going to the shopping center north of Bangkok, may even collapse.

The highways department said that the bridge was built by Ataso Construction Co Ltd under the eyes of CL Engineering Co Ltd.

Building began in April 2014 and the Highways Department passed it fit for use in August of the following year.

But following an inspection yesterday it has been ordered shut for at least a month.

Those responsible for the construction must pay for the repairs as it is still under guarantee, reported Sanook.

The plans were upside down

Probably read the Drawings as "Centimeters" not "Inches" .

Or perhaps the other way around!?

"fears that the bridge, used by thousands daily going to the shopping center north of Bangkok, may even collapse".

Yet the roads underneath used by many more people is still fully open.

The first few months this bridge was open was fun with tall pickups taking out the restricted height barriers or getting stuck where bridge goes under the road. It was not long ago that they removed the security guard posted on the bridge to stop tall vehicles.

My 9 year old son builds Lego cars without reading the instructions, gets it right every time, I could bring him along if need be, he would do it for free.

You mean like American and European engineers on the Mars probe that crashed into the planet as opposed to orbiting it because of this?

I am not an engineer, so if I may ask, what is actually the problem? As I see it, the expansion gap is probably quite big but how does this affect the structure or safety of the bridge?

You are seriously comparing the complexity of sending a probe to Mars with constructing a ready made bridge where you only have to put the pieces together in the right order.?

No.

If you read what I quoted you would see someone mentioned that they could havr mixed up centimeter and inches.

I'm pointing out that that is what Nasa did with a failed xxx Million dollar probe.

Yes i remember that, wasn't it to do though with gallons and liters ?

Ah Yes, The norm in Thailand. Shoddy work done by unskilled workers working for a unskilled engineer hired by an influential company owner of status that is sharing his ill gotten contract money with someone in a bought position in the government. Ah Yes, TIT

The Highway department passed it to be fit for use,Why did they pass it? are they engineers?,did the check the plans/can they read a plan?did they check the Bridge or just signed the document that it was fit for use?

Uh, huh. And those Highway Dept clowns who passed it as fit for use?

A TiT defamation suit in the making.

So it passed inspection in 2015 and was in use until yesterday yet it was assembled incorrectly! I hope there is an inspector or two that are out of a job soon.......

Lucky we have social media and people find out the many problems that accure in this country: other wise bridges would collapse, murder run around and nobody get on them (sure not police as no bribe for that)....and and and

But the government want to control the social media to suppress all the shit going on in this c.ountry under government responsibilty....

and they created a law to prevent them of facing their inability! but easy to take innocent and attentive people, either thais or foreigners to get them to court !!!!!! Thats a shame!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they couldn't see the gap when they built or inspected it before~must have been the Hong Thong
