Nakorn Ratchasima to conduct X-Ray Operations to ensure road safety

The Nakorn Ratchasima Provincial Land Transport Office will be initiating a road safety campaign for the New Year Holidays by conducting an "x-ray" operation at bus terminals until January 3 2007.

Nakorn Ratchasima Provincial Land Transport official Anusorn Withoonrakorn (อนุสรณ์ วิทูรากร), reported that his agency will be monitoring the readiness of bus drivers and their blood alcohol level. If drivers are found to possess a blood alcohol level between 1-50 milligram percent, they will be relieved of their duties immediately. Drivers found to possess a blood alcohol level of greater than 50 milligram percent will face legal action.

Nakorn Ratchasima officials have set a surveillance target of no less than 4,000 inspections. Mr. Anusorn reports that no drivers have yet to be found with a high blood alcohol level while vehicle safety checkpoints have been established to monitor and inspect vehicles that have been modified. 714 vehicles have so far been impounded for unsafe modifications.

The Nakorn Ratchasima Provincial Land Transport Office is also requesting the cooperation of truck operators heading to the Northeastern region to refrain from transporting heavy goods during the New Year Holidays.
