Schools In Udon Thani

Hoping someone can help me. My Thai GF and i have just moved into a house on the Baan Hansa estate, (Maung City), Udon Thani and are looking for a school for my girlfriends ten year old son who will be joining us in the new year. A school that pays alot of attention to the English language as well as Thai would be preferable. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Don Bosco, but it is very hard to get into.

St Mary's but a far as I know that is girls only.

I thiks there is one other but I don't know the name of it.

Your probably going o be looking at private lessons in english if want that stressed.

Udon Christian is the other your possibly thinking of Ray on Udon Dutsadi Road ( nr. the Siri Garand Hotel )

They could be limited ( i think ) to cover the latter years in high school.

English is not very good either from reports i,ve had and one of my neighbours is having private lessons in addition to what is available at the school.

Suggest a motor round to Don Bosco and Udon Christian.

Apart from these there are the Gov. Schools and maybe you could visit them and try to speak to one of the English language tutors about this side of things.

Over crowding in the classes is a big problem in these according to one guy i talked to some time ago.( 65 ) and it,s impossible to give extra attention to the slower learners because of this.

In Khon Kaen is Vithes Sueksa Bilangual School. As the name suggests, all teaching is in English and Thai. They can provide boarding for about 70'000 Baht/year. They have a lot of farang teachers and follow a western teaching style. Maximum 25 kids/class, average about 20. They provide Anuban 1-3, Pratom 1-6 and Matayom 1-6. Familiar athmosphere; I got the impression, that they really care for the kids. Not cheap: ~ 200'000 Baht/year + accomodation or transport, the school is about 6 km out of town.

I will let my daughter go there for Matayom in next spring. I found no other school in Khon Kaen that could be compared withn this one.

What about pattana panya school in Udon? It's a small school, they teach from 3 years old in english, thai and chinese. Apparantly they have one thai speaking and one english speaking teacher per classroom with not more than 20 students.

I visited the school with my wife last month and they seem to be quite proffessional.

Don Bosco is certainly the best but,as others say,very difficult to get into even if you have a big wad of cash.

Our son goes to Udon Christian.Its not bad and easy to get into.As regards learning English he'll probably learn just as much from having a farang dad....providing,of course,you speak the proper queens lingo,innit mate!
