BANGKOK, 5 June 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will use Thailand’s strength to develop tourism and attract more tourists. The ministry has expressed confidence that there will be more foreign tourists visiting Thailand this year with a revenue estimate of 27 trillion baht. 

At a seminar of the five regional Thai chambers of commerce, Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul spoke about the country’s guidelines to develop the Thai tourism sector. The minister said the guidelines are aimed at promoting six sectors that Thailand has readiness and potential such as sport tourism, health tourism, maritime tourism and food tourism. 

The private sector and communities will take part in developing tourist sites and increasing the value of community-made products. The ministry will also focus on attracting tourists from ASEAN countries to visit Thailand before traveling to a third country and issue a visa to allow CLMV and Chinese medical tourists to stay in Thailand for 90 days. 

As for security measures for tourists, Mrs. Kobkarn confirmed that the ministry always works with national security units and there are volunteers who are local people helping to ensure security all the time. This will make tourists feel more confident, said the minister.

They made an announcement last week the place was flooded with quality Russian and Chinese tourists.  They want to attract more, wouldn't be wiser to let the flood subdue before opening the weir gates.

A big positive for TAT that these tourists will be bringing 27 trillion baht with them.
No mention of what less appealing things they will be bringing with them like the trillion tonnes of human waste which will impose further stresses on the already failing and inadequate sewage systems. 

As always in Thailand it is all about money, money, money.

No one seems to care a stuff about anything else.

Yes I often think about this. Like the terrible lines at the airports, and unmanned immigration booths. They say there's an increase in tourism and they have difficulties handling that number of people. Yet there are airport taxes and other fees built into every passenger's airfare, money which is supposed to go to upgrading services and hiring extra staff.

Thailand will never attract quality tourism. The country unfortunately still known for its scams, kidnappings, cheap prostitution and an infrastructure compared to third world standards. Let's also assume the death numbers in traffic are also one of the highest in the world. In other words, it will always be low quality of high quantity at least for a very long time. Live with it.

It's so sad.......if this woman (or the whole gov.) would use their brain (if there is any): Thailand competes will ALL Asean countries. E.G Burma is rising with ancient temples and beautiful beaches and got a vibrant Rangoon. Cambodia attracts with Angkor plus beaches, Laos with original rural structure, and Vietnam with everything but also a flair of savoir vivre. And Thailand stands out with incompetence in all ways. No law enforcement, violence, greediness and carrying the red lantern when it comes to English language. If holiday seekers will have an option - and it's only a few steps from now - they will turn their back to LOS and look for more  (and safe) adventure, clean beaches, less waste and more friendly people. If they now plaster all beaches with new resorts and guest houses they will have to pay the bill in a few years. Examples you can see in Spain, Majorca, Greece and other countries. A good example how to protect your country is SEYCHELLES. Pristine hotels, clean environment, higher prices for higher quality. This you'll find also in other holiday areas in the world.

I suppose nobody wants to hear this in LOS. There is too much Tea Money around.....for the rich. The poor will pay the bill....sooner or later.

There is so much prevalent greed with TAT they never cease to amaze.

 

Unfortunately it will never change and they will continue to cling and grasp to next years windfall, paying no attention to the existing health of its tourism economy or landscape.

 

Why in the name of the lord could they not just issue a 90 day tourist visa for everybody, do away with the beurocratic complications and just accept that they should open the floodgates now as there are plenty of welcoming/ attractive countries nearby that will not be destroyed within 10 years.

Grammar Police: Acronyms are abbreviations or contractions that can be pronounced:

UNESCO, satnav etc.

CLMV I would think is only an abbreviation, as it is a list of countries which normally would not be abbreviated unless the name of an association, which is included.
