Thailand-Australia-U.S. discuss military cooperation enhancements

SINGAPORE, 5 June 2017 (NNT) – The Deputy Minister of Defence welcomed Defence Ministers from Australia and the United States in a meeting to enhance military cooperation between participating countries.

Deputy Minister of Defence Gen Udomdej Sitabutr has attended the 16th IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore along with defence ministers from many countries such as the U.S., Japan, Australia, France, Malaysia, and Canada.

On this occasion, he held talks with Australian Minister for Defence Marise Payne and thanked Australia for the proposal to send warships to join in the international fleet, celebrating ASEAN's 50th anniversary in November. The Australian Defence Minister also expressed her interest to visit Thailand this year.

The Thai Deputy Minister of Defence has also held talks with the United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis, who has stressed his country's commitment to the Asia Pacific region and the intention to enhance military relations between both countries.

The Secretary of Defense has also invited executives of the Ministry of Defence to visit the U.S., to demonstrate close relations between the military of both countries.

No chance of that. Australia travel ban for coup leaders still on. Australia condemned the coup. Lots of kissing up by Gen Udomdej to try score some PR points.

Won't it be confusing for the US and AUS to have any military exercises with Thailand when Thailand uses Chinese military hardware? But maybe the intent is to have Thailand play the role of China.

Oz could send its subs, and pretend it's Sweden. Gidday, I'm Olle, he's Sven.
