PATTAYA: -- At around 2:00am on June 12th, an Aussie man entered Pattaya police station to make a report after he was attacked by a group of Thai’s.

Entering the station, it was clearly visible that he had had an accident or been attacked in some way due to the injuries on his face and body.

Initially the man was very loud and and it was difficult for the police to understand him and deal with the problem. After a short while, Mr. Steven John Hooke, aged 64, calmed himself down before giving a statement to police.

In the statement, he told police that he had been drinking alone in a small beer bar on Pattaya Beach Road. He started to feel tired , so paid his bill and left the bar.

Whilst walking home, he told police that he was attacked out of the blue by a gang of Thai’s. He said that the attack was totally unprovoked and could not think of any reason while someone would want to hurt him.

The man managed to fend off the gang and make a run for it before any serious damage or loss of belongings occurred.

Police sent the message out to look for the gang, but they were no where to be seen.

The witness statement will be kept as evidence, but the police have little hope in finding the culprits after no physical description was given

Apparently, 'short, with dark hair, heaps of the buggers', was not a sufficient description ! :cheesy:

There were couple of articles lately about Thailand being a dangerous place,

and if anyone was wondering what is it all about, well, there you go,

having said that, one have to have his wits about him though, but of

all the 2am lone drinkers in Thailand who walks home if one or 2 get

into troubles, it's still not too bad compare to other countries around the

world....

So a tourist out having a drink on his holidays gets way layed by a bunch of cowards who could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag and its his fault.

Yep your right he should never have gone to the end of the earth when there are safer places close by who treat tourists with a bit of respect as they know its the tourist who keeps the country afloat.

I think I will go and get p>>>>E and see if this happens here, no don't want a headache in the morning and no t around

certainly not his fault .. and I didn't say it was his fault ,  however being street wise and country savy ....   why put yourself in a position that could entice a robbery or similar.

Would you do that in Venezuela or Africa   ?    I sure as hell wouldn't ....

Knowing me I'd go to use the whistle and pepper spray myself in the mouth.

I didn't say it was his fault ,  I said he was silly.  :shock1:       I know your saying he should be safe to do as he pleases and I agree but thats not the case ....   why make yourself a target for robbery or similar ....  it's simply being safer.

The problem is my friend not all tourists know what its like here and do as they do back home hence get labelled as silly.

There is not a lot of promotion allowed on this place as you know with some governments only putting up notices on their travel websites warning of Ski Jet scams.

If I was in charge of a website for a government like the UK, I would say don't go its a nightmare, lucky I am not then.

But I can still do that???

Thank <deleted> you are not my life coach!

What an ignorant and pathetic attitude to somebody who has as far as is reported done nothing wrong or illegal.

I don't think it's being ignorant,   I am just saying one has to be careful drinking out at 2.00am alone and possibly drunk ....    I'm not saying it's his fault just that I always drink with another person and always leave with someone ...   snatches and robbers are common at late night and they watch the drunks ...

In a city that's open 24 hrs a day for everything, the time is irrelevant.

Alone, well maybe he like to sit alone and relax. If he was with a girl some idiot would accuse him of being a sex tourist and deserved it too.

How about some criticism of the morons attacking him?

What an inane statement. How about it was 5am and he was being escorted by two ladybugs? You clearly lead a sheltered life.

I've been out drinking to the wee hours of the morning and staggered along Beach Road on my way home a few times. One time I decided to walk the 3kms or so home because I thought I was too drunk to take a moto taxi (figured I might pass out and fall off).

Guess how many times I've been attacked ? How many times I've been pick-pocketed by ladyboys  or had some piece of gold snatched ?

Yeah. Zero times.

There are usually two sides to every story and usually one side will rarely admit that they are responsible for anything. Whenever I hear a story like this the first thing that comes to mind is - what did you do to provoke the incident.

Incredibly, there are people on this site that think there are roving gangs of people that like to lurk around every soi, just waiting for some poor innocent drunk foreigner to wander along minding his own business, so they can attack him for no reason at all.

Drunk, arrogant, angry ***hat foreigners are never to blame though, are they ?

A quick check of the CCTV in the area should come up with the real story.

unfortunately they weren't working at the time of the attack

Perhaps he called them an aussie bast*** and they did not like it. On a second note thailand if you keep on doing this then absolutly nobody will come to thailand then perhaps you will learn. Again we note there was more than one on one you small minded cowards.

Being out at 2 am drinking alone in Pattaya is normal and should be very safe.  Lets not forget some bars are open 24 hours.

Maybe the poor guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The incidents of bashings at 2 am in my home city well outweigh them in Pattaya or Bangkok. Its just that there is no forum there to read about it but ask the Police that patrol those areas and they tell you it happens every single night. (Those damn drugs)

I hope the guy is ok. He is 64 years old. Such cowards to attack him no matter what the reason.
