This won't mean a lot to many people but one of the greatest folk singers Vin Garbutt died last week, he died at 69 years of age. Anyone fortuanate to have seen Vin in concert will know what a fine singer and funny man he was. I saw Vin at the Saltburn folk festival and Otley many times. RIP Vin.

I hope someone remembers him.

Shame to die at 69 ,but never heard of him

I think only the real true folkies will have heard of him, a real legend, and a big name in that circle.

Vincent Paul Garbutt (20 November 1947 – 6 June 2017) was an English folk singer and songwriter. A significant part of his repertoire consisted of protest songs covering topics such as "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland (Troubles of Erin), unemployment, and social issues.

Sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of seeing him numerous times in folk clubs and at folk festivals in the UK. However he did court controversy in some circles on account of his anti-abortion stance.

I listened to a Mike Hardin interview on Radio Tees on youtube, he said the same, apparently he was a devout catholic. But that all said I've never ever seen such a brilliant raconteur and musician. He had me in stitches and he always came across as a 'simple simon' but he was extremely intelligent and a kind man, spoke to him a few times.
