PATTAYA: -- A Japanese businessman from Tokyo had some choice words for Pattaya after he was robbed of his 50,000 baht necklace before he and his wife had even got to his hotel.

The lone motorcycle snatch thief grabbed his Chinese necklace just moments after he had got off a tour bus and while he was waiting with his luggage for a taxi.

Police phoned ahead, but the thief had disappeared. The incident happened at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 41 on Wednesday evening.

Siamchon news named the Japanese man as Mr Single Dalian, then referred to him as Mr Single in their report of the latest Pattaya snatch.

The headline on the story said he was from the land of raw fish.

Mr Single, a restaurant and private businessman in the Japanese capital, said that he was making his first trip to Thailand.

He grumbled that Pattaya had a reputation as a world renowned resort but was clearly unsafe.

Police promised to investigate.

NOt on the side of snatch thief here, but Pattaya and Thailand surely has a less safe crime index, so why wear a 50,000THB necklace around.

Take extra care when travelling overseas.

Take extra care when travelling overseas.

Wouldn't that depend on which sea / which direction ?

You're not following the official line are you?  Quality tourists abound, mainly Chinese and Russian, and even the local hoodlums are kind, gentle and considerate.

Very poor post.

You are living in a dream and yes you do make very poor post.

It has a reputation as a world renowned resort alright. He should have done a little research into exactly what it is renowned for though.

Had he done so he might not have been wandering around with a 50,000 baht gold necklace on.

Welcome to the land of smile.

The smile of chea......

As a matter of fact, the criminals

against foreigner usually walk away.

Or just locked up till the victim has left the country making them believe, justice has taken place.

Actually, if all the embassies would do their job properly, the would give a travel warning.

I don't think we should blame the Japanese man even though he seems naive on the goings on in Thailand.

He has probably been to other countries with his necklace and had no issues. There needs to be ways introduced to warn travellers to Thailand on what to do and not what to do. For Pattaya the list would be quite long starting with the mafia controlled Jetskies and Taxi operators who are committing crimes so often they no longer get mentioned anywhere.

If you're gonna wear the bling-bling in Pattaya, either make sure you are buffed up to the max, look mean enough or are African. Tiny skinny dudes with a few grams of muscle need not apply.

:stoner:Based, on the story, it smells?   The police can start with the driver of the tour bus?  check his cell phone for the last call?

Just a stab, but maybe the driver saw the gold chain, called ahead to a friend and when they stop and Japanese was waiting bang gone!  The photo showing busy Sukhumvit?  what a coincident?  Last, what is someone trying to prove a 50,000 gold chain on a tour?  Plain stupid in my opinion!  That is like hanging a light bulb around a turkey saying come and get it?

oh well ....   he can absorb the 50k loss. He's lucky it was only 50k and not more ...

when arriving tourists need to keep gold and money safely hidden ...  it's that simple. And don't carry shoulder bags if you don't need to.

Why bring coal to new castle? and why wear it in Pattaya, a no brainer.

"He grumbled that Pattaya had a reputation as a world renowned resort" - next time check the details of that reputation closely before wearing 2000 dollar necklaces around town.  :saai:
