Thai Airways International has been rated among the best airlines in the world by airline review firm Skytrax.

Earlier this week Skytrax held its ‘World Airline Awards’ at the Paris Air Show, with Thai Airways claiming the title of World's Best Economy Class, along with awards for Best Airline Lounge Spa Facility and Best Economy Class Onboard Catering.

Thai Airways was also rated as the 11th best airline overall.

Bangkok Airways also took home two awards: World's Best Regional Airline and Best Regional Airline in Asia.

Air Asia and Air Asia X were the other regional airlines to win awards.

Air Asia was awarded World's Best Low-Cost Airline and Best Low-Cost Airline in Asia, while sister firm Air Asia X won World's Best Low Cost Airline Premium Cabin and World's Best Low Cost Airline Premium Sea.

Globally, Qatar Airways beat Emirates to the gong of best carrier, ahead of Singapore Airlines in second and ANA All Nippon Airways in third.

Emirates were in fourth, while Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Lufthansa, Etihad, Hainan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia made up the top 10.

So, this review is credible, but the one showing Suvarnabhumi among world's worst airports isn't.

Skytrax is also a somewhat more reputable organization that that other one that named Swampy among the 10 worst airports (Skytrax has Swampy as #38 overall in their top 100).

Yes Skytrax has been doing credible polls and assessments of airlines and airports for many, many years and is pretty much the industry standard on the latest opinions and THAI coach is alright.

I flew with Qatar airways last night from Doha to Bangkok . Nice bit of leg room on the A380 and had a decent kip.  Pretty good food choices Biriyani , Noodles or Chicken steak and the fed us twice on a 6 hour flight. Docked at a gate and not a bus. One of the best I've flown with

Indeed... However, for some the direct route would be worth the additional cost.

Thai have a direct route to Frankfurt...  In business (or First) many would not like to be woken up 6 hrs into a night flight, especially in First where its more like sleeping in a bed and a decent nights sleep can actually be achieved.

IF Emirates had the 'non-stop' routes they would be better hands down, but would they still have the same cost saving compared to Thai ?

It's not quite comparing apples with apples when making a comparison of non-stop vs flights with a stop.

Wow , one day worst airport BKK , next day best airline . Go figure. mmmm

i prefer a stop, especially a stop in the Emirates first class lounge, have a few delicate snacks, an espresso, a cigarette or two and perhaps an interesting conversation with fellow travellers. but that's all besides the point as far as pricing is concerned. Thai charging for business a higher fare than Emirates (one of the top airlines) i consider not only unjustified but an impertinence!

i flew Thai BKK-FRA-BKK business (Thai does not offer first class on this route) and was not impressed neither by the service nor by the seating arrangement nor by the fact that the crew did not stop the crowd of non-business passengers queuing up for a couple of hours to use the bathrooms.

here's apples with apples... what about the fact that Thai charges for business a fare 61,000 Baht higher than the business fare of Emirates?

you need to get your information straight. as already mentioned Thai does not offer first and the flight BKK-FRA is a 12 hour long day flight with passengers having the shades open admiring the Himalayas and hostesses running back and forward to cater for the various requests. i have no problems sleeping on an aircraft but i'd like to meet the passenger who can sleep uninterrupted for 12 hours during a day flight.

Qatar is good. Much better than Etihad. Flying into Bangkok Etihad dared to serve a Thai meal with about two spoonfuls of rice in it: minor mutiny.

What - supposedly - is wrong with Suvarnabhumi? You can get around, there's plenty of seating, it's cheap to eat and buy things and it's dirt cheap to get into the city. Top airport.

Abu Dhabi airport. People smoke, the information is b*llocks, they don't even look at the security scan screens, nobody is around to answer a question...

Having said all that, the fully reclined "dentist's chair" seats are very comfortable, so long as you're certain you won't fall asleep and miss the flight.

11th is not the best by a long way but properganda says best, the place is No1 at ONE thing BullS>>>

From my place of origin it makes sense to use Thai,  6 hours direct , for me the 330 is better than the 787,  but that's me , I've traveled the world with Thai in business and it's just as good as Singapore or QANTAS at less cost:coffee1:............................

Actually the headline is wrong, it should say best Economy Class.

Frankly i would have to disagree with this.  Having flown them all regularly in both economy and business class, I would rate Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, ANA, Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, Jet Airways,Singapore and Malaysian airlines as all having a better Economy class experience than tired old Thai.

thai air is not an economy airline; flew many times economy plus to/from LA; NOT an economy airline

Thai Airways rated as world’s best economy airline

Jeez. That's got to hurt. Not much face in there.

The planes don't even dock at the airport, you have to get a bus and climb up into the thing.

That would depend on the airport, wouldn't it.

I dont see how you can make much of a comparison about economy class on any non budget airline, all the planes come out of the same factories with similar seat size, fit-out etc. They fly in and out of the same airports, often use the same contracted check-in staff. They all take on food from the same catering at the airport. Variables like airport delays and weather apply equally to all. With code sharing. you can book on emerates and end up on a qantas flight.
