Vanished from Koh Tao! Missing Russian Girl still not found – is the island hiding a macabre secret?

Valentina-Novozhenova-Water-300x170.jpg

On the 15th of February 2017 Russian tourist Valentina Novozhyonova, 23, left her bungalow on Koh Tao and was never seen again. The news of the young girl’s disappearance took almost 3 weeks to emerge from the tiny island now being dubbed ‘Death Island’ by the press due to the extraordinary number of tourists who die in suspicious circumstances while holidaying there.

When it comes to strange goings on the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Valentia is no exception. While the residents of Koh Tao are appalled at the new nickname for the chunk of rock they call home, it is hardly surprising ‘Turtle Island’ has a bad reputation when it takes three weeks for a search to be called when a young backpacker goes missing.

A post on the Koh Tao community page on Facebook even states that news of the missing girl should be supressed to protect the already dwindling reputation of the island. And now rumours are circulating that the body of a young girl was found six weeks ago partially burnt, eaten by animals and partially wrapped in T-shirts.

Unsurprisingly this information was never made public and never appeared in any police report and was never passed on to Valentina’s grieving family who have been told that the search for the girl still continues, despite there being no evidence to suggest that it is.

I believe there is an element on that Island that is praying on young western women, on islands you have Thais mixing with farangs, they socialise in the same bars, that doesn't really happen in other holiday cities like pattaya for example were Thais have their own areas for social encounters away from the farang areas, on koh tao I believe that there are groups of Thai men who actively seek out targets in the local bars and night entertainment venues and when they are told to sod off lose face and become angry, some of these men have established themselves in positions of influence and feel the need to take things further when their advances are refused, this then leads to revenge attacks and possible rape attempts as they try to recover face, it is evil and cowardly as they prey on young innocent girls who don't realise the danger they are in, I believe these people will stop at nothing to get their way and feel that they are above the law.

This particular incident of the missing Russian girl is interesting because the one sure way to cover up an evil act is to make sure there is absolutely no evidence left behind to investigate, this particular incident will go no further than a missing person unless a body is found, IMO she is buried in a hole in the ground and will never be found.

I'm happy to see the spotlight being shone once more on this place. Way too many people have died or gone missing, which is simply not possible without someone knowing what has happened. The only thing more important to Thais than face is money. Maybe when tourists totally boycott the place and the island is going broke, someone might break the silence and identify the evil perpetrators. Whether the cops will do anything about it even then, is not something I would put money on though.

Thank you Samui Times.

A very useful article. Don't let Koh Tao and its evil off the hook.

This island should stay in the headlines until everything is clear and the killers got what they deserve.

Unfortunately I'm afraid of your safety, Samui Times. Please take care. The world needs your reporting.

i just don't like lies and bullshit spewed by people that have never set foot in a place!

Perhaps you can give us the "true" facts as to why there are so many horrific murders/missing young persons on such a small Island and why the authorities there seem to ignore them

Just keep making sure nobody you know ever visits there. Why would you let friends or family go to a place with protected criminals doing whatever they like to whomever they choose?

To my mind, the term "protected criminals" covers the police, the army, the politicians and the rich across all of Thailand. And that wasn't even getting started on the criminals per se. This place just takes the piss though and I agree, people should totally stay away.

What surprises me about the whole Koh Tao 'black hole' is the number of people who are energetically trying to deny all of it - except for Hannah and David, of course.

To any rational person the very fact that there is so much doubt and so many contradictions and inconsistencies surrounding the other deaths ought to give pause - anyone who is dispassionate would conclude that there is more going on here than meets the eye.

And yet in all of these forums, whenever this topic has come up, there is a harcdore of 6 or 7 people who are disputing every point of doubt raised about the manner of these deaths, and sometimes getting quite aggressive about it.

To an objective observer, this seems only to strengthen the case for further investigation - why protest so strongly when there is so much doubt? And reading between the lines the gist of what these protesters are saying is . . .  "nothing can be proved, you've got no proof, " over and over again.

I'm posting these comments towards the start of this thread - let's just wait and see if the shouts of protest of the 'Koh Tao is innocent' brigade come wriggling out of the woodwork yet again over the next few days.

The locals should have established a safe way of disposing bodies by now. After all they've had enough practice. As for the back packers, they are a bunch of sheep who will just go there regardless, as it's in the Lonely Planet, and they'll meet all the same people they saw on Kao San Road, and will see again in Chiang Mai, Pai, Hanoi, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, and do all the same stuff as millions of other 'travellers' before them.

They've stopped leaving the corpses lying about now. The 'fell off a cliff' conclusion is now being watched with derision by the media all over the world. Now those involved have started simply making the bodies disappear - as in the case of Valentina Novozhyonova who vanished without trace in March and is still missing. It seems that they think this will solve all their problems - no body = nothing to worry about.

Yes I agree and that is why I was non specific.

Thailand is indeed responsible for the disappearance and murder of many innocent lives who visited this place which is a haven for criminals it seems.

Koh Tao harbouring many murderers and the outside world must get to know about it and avoid going there.?

I truly hope people realize the dangers and stop visiting the place. Period.

Went there last year seems safe enough to me however if your not street wise and stupid I think you can end up in trouble anywhere.

The island should be subjected to an independent investigation, even if conducted under cover, as it`s obvious there are somethings going on that are sinister and evil.  Could be a lone maniac, a murderous gang or even a cult operating on Koh Tao. Why are not the foreign media publicising the events happening there big time, and even asking travel agents to warn tourists of the dangers of visiting that tourist destination?  How many more innocents must die before someone in authority admits there is a problem?

I knew a ex-intel Finnish economic hit-man worked for a big Boston firm, had dealings in Thailand that went bad ove a well-connected lady in real estate and he barely got out with his life after losing millions. Short of it is gangs he had to deal with were run by local Chinese vs. Thai Military -- they made a deal at his expense. Cops involved on both ends.
