Looking for a traditional midwife in Ayutthaya

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm doing a research project and am looking for traditional Thai midwives (หมอตำแย) to interview in a few different locations around Thailand, one of them being Ayutthaya.  If anyone knows of any midwives in/around Ayutthaya I would be very appreciative of any information you can share.  I'm also hoping to find midwives in Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Song areas (and will post in local forums there), and am open to possibly interviewing midwives in other areas as well if time allows.

Many thanks for any help :)

You may want to try checking with the Ministry of Public Health. There is a department (or body, not sure of current designation), which supposedly regulates Traditional Thai medicine issues. As far as I know, the traditional midwife role is not actively promoted anymore, and the relevant parts of the curriculum are more theoretical in nature, otherwise focusing more on pre and post-birth care.
