Visa for Australia uk/thai for funeral

Featured Replies

Before i start trawling through the site and the web. Hoping an answer can come swifter on here.

Devistating news that a great friend of ours and Thailand has passed away in Sydney (his home) the dreaded big C. All very quick.

My question is there a quickly gained Visa for a uk passport holder and a Thai passport holder for purposes such as this funerals.

Thanks

As a UK national you can apply for an e-visa (ETA) free of charge, beware of the companies that charge to process these.

eVisitor-Online-application

Most countries do allow for emergency processing of applications for those in your circumstances, though I can't find anything on the  Australian Website, that doesn't mean it it's not there.

Unlike the British Embassy, you can contact their outsource service by telephone or email.  02 118 7100 & [email protected] so if anybody hasn't got any first hand experience, maybe try one of those.

I have just had a www.border.gov.au evisitor visa granted the same day, and they process 95% of this type of visas for British and certain other countries passport holders for stays of up to 3 months, within 1-3 days.

You have to open an immiaccount on their website and there is no charge for this type of visa, however I don't think Thailand passport holders are included for this type of visa, but you can check on their website.

Best of luck.

You would be best seeking to speak directly to one of the Embassy Officials who provide the emergency response service.

Does the Thai person have family links to the deceased because if not obtaining an urgent visa on compassionate grounds may prove difficult.

Thanks for all replies rang the hotline given by @oldgit im fine as a UK passport holder. I can get evisitor visa within a day no problems. Unfortunatly getting one for my wife is more problematic. Could according to the lady i zpoke to take up to 3 weeks and the paperwork is crazy. Im still waiting for a call back as she looks into it more for us. But its not looking good unfortunatley.

You are or have been talking to someone from VFS who essentially are just a post box for visa applications -- They have little knowledge and are not part of the decision making process which occurs within the Embassy..

As I previously suggested you should contact the Embassy's emergency service -----I doubt you will get a call from VFS now because they will have closed.

Had a call back been given a number to ring tomorrow. It seems as a thai an evisa is not posdible but and its a big but apparently the number ive been given is the embassies emergamcy service and they do have the authority to issue one in these type of cases however as neither of us were any more than good friends with the deceased. Been advised to get an email tonight from his Daughter (NOK). Basicaly stating that he has died with a scanned copy of death certificate and that both myself and my wife have been good friends with him for many years. Might swing it will see tm. Thanks again
