It is the selective and arbitrary clampdown that is the problem. If they were serious they would send someone into every go-go or beer bar, offer to bar fine and once the money is handed over close the place for being a den of prostitution and human trafficking. You and I know that won't happen. You and I know they only make a token effort for a few weeks to try and garner headlines that 'prove' they are doing something, and then they all go back to sleep again.

errr... barfines are not illegal, neither in go-gos nor in beer bars

I'm sure the TAT will not be pleased when they eventually realize  why revenue is down 50%.

Pattaya will become a ghost town. at this rate !

With the military continuing to push for pain, the expats of Pattaya we will be forced into pulling for pleasure.  :shock1:    (IMHO)

Amazing to see all posters here defending the prostitution, then in another thread those same posters have a laugh that the government can't get out of tier 2 human trafficking.

Are some of you ever going to get over it. This is a very poor comparison, and if your

little brains can't handle a clampdown on crime then why are you here. You guys are always

complaining about crime and rip offs.

If it was something new I could see the outrage but this sort of stuff has been going on for a long time

Tip to the hat of the Chief - visitors come to Pattaya for nature anyhow, as instructed so by the Minister of Tourism.

So,  the only thing now is how to turn Walking Street and Soi 6 into botanical gardens - simple as that!

What's all the fuss about....

bars will continue to run as bars.. so you can get a drink

clubs will continue to run as clubs.. so you can drink and dance the night away

restaurants will run as restaurants... so you can get a meal

massage shops will give a genuine massage... so you can get your massage

the girls will go freelance onto the streets.. so you can get your happy ending..

Stop all the panicking !!!

Do you really think that the people at the top who are really coining it in are going to start with themselves? :cheesy:

The money handed over in a gogo should be a barfine, which is just to release the girl or boy from work. What might take place later is private and not illegal.

The girls and boys that work in the FARANG night life sector in Pattaya are not trafficked.

If they want to stop crime, they should target the sector for locals.

I totally agree that drugs & underage working girls should be stopped once & for all.

Adults enjoying themselves is a different matter.

Please do not treat us all as children Mr Junta & allow "adult entertainment venues" to operate

which is allowing thousands of families to survive in Issaan by sending monies home.

The Government is not going to fill this void but spend huge amounts of money on non chuffa trains & subs

The vast majority of prostitution in Pattaya is unrelated to human trafficking and a lot of human trafficking in Thailand is unrelated to prostitution.  So I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

The powers that be do not like prostitution and drugs nor the in your face sex business. The crackdown will continue and step by step they will either force a bar to close or put so much pressure on the patrons in the way of Visas/extensions of stay that there are not enough patrons. In addition, they will not issue any new licenses and never renew the ones that have them.

There is plenty of money that will flow into Pattaya without the sex business. The Chinese tours and other family oriented business plus the increase in middle class Thais that come will more than make up for the loss of Western mongers,

Their goal is to force as much of the sex business they can to relocate- with more and more pressure on Walking Street and Soi 6.  It's working as most owners want out- Pataya will continue to change and so will Bangkok: Phuket and Samui. The old days are gone.

It is the lingering and the whinging about it not being the good old days that I would like to see come to an end.... so I would prefer they just close the majority of the bars and be done with it.

No it isn't. It's the alcohol licensing that is being enforced.

How about the junta start by looking in their immediate backyard = 'Bangkok', to start with?  And not only the bars farangs go to... how about having a serious look at the 'Karaoke bars' in Bangkok and throughout the Kingdom... they might discover something that has been operating under their noses for years... (not that they don't already know this).

They don't care about Karaoke Bars because they are discrete and not in your face- they want to stop Thailand from being labelled with sex and they believe this can be done by forcing most of the GoGos to close and control places like Soi 6 which is way too overt -with scantily clad girls very visible to those outside.  As far as Bangkok- Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are definitely on the chopping block. This time it is for real as the military will most likely be in power for a long time

You think that prostitution is human trafficking?

The vast majority of girls do it voluntarily as it is the only way they can (hopefully) make any decent money to support themselves and their families.  The posters you refer to abhor Human Trafficking but believe that prostitution can never be stopped and, as such, should probably be properly legalised.

Your name "Thaidream" says it all really, as that is what your comments reveal.    What will all these replacement visitors be coming to Pattaya for?     Its pristine beaches?   Calling all Westerners "mongers" displays at the very least a slight bias against them, while ignoring the fact that far more Thais use the prostitutes services available all over Thailand than ever the Westerners do.

Are the karaoke bars in breach of the licensing laws? I'm not aware of any that open before 6pm.

And you do that in a normal business? Try doing that in your own country. Everyone knows what it is for.

I don't and you don't, but that is how the authorities are often treating it.

As far as I know the system is only used in Thailand, and was created to allow gogos and bars to operate within the law. It's hardly a "normal" business!
