I wouldn't own a Fortuner! They are the ugliest car on the road and everyone has one. I would go look at a Suburu and if you wanted something smaller maybe a Suzuki Swift!

I ain't got one but wish I did....

Suzuki Swift is similar to a Fortuner SUV eh.......?..........facepalm.gif.d94b65ed3a193137ceab081c5893ba25.gif

Yes, you won't be special in the Fortuner but you'll be turning heads in the Swift, but you'll enjoy driving the Suburu.

Turning heads in a Swift...........Now come on..........

At my age I don't give a toss about turning heads, especially if I am in a run of the mill LOS ride....

Why is that...?

It's very common for car makers to sell one generation of the cars for 6-8 years with one or two mid life facelifts. Normally they keep the chassis and engines same but make changes to bumpers and exterior lights to make the car look "new" again after 3 years since launch. If I'm not mistaken, the previous Tuna had at least 3 major facelifts, basically same body for over 10 years, one of the longest Toyota model sold.

What's a Tuna? I never heard of a Toyota Tuna? I do like Tuna Fish at Subway!

Probably, but Toyota did develop a ride that was near bullet proof that kept selling..They really didn't have to change much to something that folk wanted..There have been many rides that have been the same with minor touching...RR looked much the same for decades, Porsche 911 too....Even the BMC (BL) Mini went on for years...

Just adding anoher thing on the cruise control, the other models do have cruise control inside them they just havent been hooked up. There are many places that offer to enable it for you and add the buttons on the steering wheel for you. (Same as factory delievered.)

Some models and cars you can add paddle shifts too if there is a model of your vehicle that has it. I think Foruner has paddle shifts on its top model which means you can easily get them installed after market.

Source: My friend added paddle shifts and cruise control to his Mazda 2. Parts were all original.

I would say Toyota doesn't have much competitor and the PPV segment is not that popular 10 years ago so Toyota doesn't really need to make something new until the competitors come up with something to grab their market share. The first gen Fortuner was really outdated design not only outside but inside too.

I hope you can override somehow the engine idling stop system. I mean surely unless you have a hybrid engine, this is complete rubbish in Thailand.

Yes you can. Just push the right hand button group of 3 on the dash that's level with the drivers door armrest. 'A light comes up on dash to say it's been disconnected' It'll go off for the duration of trip, but will reset to on if you turn off the engine. The other way of doing it is not to leave it in gear when you stop at say T/Lights with foot brake on.

Thanks for this. Don't understand why they develop things like this. Surely most customers don't want it.

Your welcome.

First thing I did when I drove the Fortuner was to ask how to stop the cutout bit. Drove me mad after the second time it cut out. Now I press the button as soon as I get in the lump.

Another thing that was confusing was the Comp: Sat/Nav. Now have that organised as well. But only after I had a visit from a chap from BKK head office, Who glad to say put me right.

Bloody modern things drive me mad as well. Why it has to have more buttons/switches than an A380 Airliner I don't know. Other than that I do like it.

Rear discs...about bloody time...I think the 4wd 2.8 would be worth a look now, but is the 2wd trd a better buy? It's a little more expensive.

Go for the most expensive one you can afford. Better resale price + you get lots more extras for free, well not free but you know what I mean.
